In recent hours, the transport ministries of Colombia and Peru jointly announced the opening of borders between the two nations for international passenger transport by land, after two years of the closure ordered by the Government of Peru in March 2020, due to the covid-19 pandemic.
According to MinTransporte de Colombia, the reactivation of passenger transport by road between countries was made possible after several working groups in which technical-operational aspects of this type of mobilization were discussed and the two governments agreed to restart services on the Lima - Bogotá route and vice versa.
The Minister of Transport, Angela María Orozco, warned that, “after difficult times due to the covid-19 pandemic, especially for the transport sector, today we have good news, not only for transporters but for users. Traveling by land to Peru today is a reality, after two years.”
For his part, the Deputy Minister of Transport, Camilo Pabón, said that this decision was agreed taking into account that the conditions are in place for users to travel safely and in compliance with the biosafety protocols established by the two governments.
“In addition, we recommend that all travellers consult the companies authorized for international passenger transport and thus ensure safety conditions,” added the deputy minister.
In this way, according to the governments of Colombia and Peru, work will continue to be done for the economic recovery of the two countries, especially in the border area, where thousands of Peruvians and Colombians were affected by the lockdown and closure of many businesses that depended on this activity.
People wishing to travel to Peru through the land terminals may do so by meeting the following requirements:
- Before traveling you must fill out the online form: 'Electronic Affidavit of Traveler's Health and Geolocation Authorization', on the website of the National Superintendency of Migration - https://djsaludviajero.minsa.gob.pe/dj-salud/
- They must prove their vaccination schedule against COVID-19, if they do not have it, they must present a negative molecular test (PCR) with a result date no more than 48 hours before boarding.
- Children under 12 years of age may board as long as they do not register symptoms.
MinTransporte specified that the Peruvian National Health Authority is empowered to take molecular tests (PCR) to passengers arriving in that country, establishing complementary health measures for positive cases among those from countries with cases of community infection due to variants of concern about COVID-19, or who have stopped in these places.
It is worth remembering that the reactivation of passenger traffic to Peru initially occurred for air transport in September 2021 and taking into account the good results achieved so far, the authorities of that country accepted the opening of borders by land, provided that the conditions are met mentioned.
