AMLO promised to increase teacher pay

From the National Palace, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reported that he and his team are working on increasing the salary of teachers with the aim of boosting education in the country.

According to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), they reveal that a teacher earns around 72.4 pesos per hour, however, this varies according to sex. According to data from this same institution, teachers earn around 76.3 pesos per hour, while female teachers have an income of 70.1 pesos for working at the same time.

During his 100th report in his fourth year as president of Mexico, López Obrador assured that he does not plan to “none” any teachers and assured that support will continue to be provided to students. He planned that the incentive will be expanded to more people this year and that 11 million scholarships have been awarded to students from preschool to doctoral students so far.

Earlier minutes, the National Union of Education Workers (SNTE) presented a national list stipulating the demands for this year, which included this situation, so the president said that an agreement with union representatives is being worked on to increase income.

“Next month we will reach an agreement with the union representation of education workers to increase their income in real terms”

In Mexico, the reality of many teachers is difficult because working hours tend to be very long and low paid, especially those who are located in rural areas. According to data from INEGI, in Mexico there are 1.2 million people in the country who practice the profession of teaching, on average, 69.9% work up to 31 hours a week.

This is not the only educational problem that Mexicans face because there is a deficiency in the education system. According to data from INEGI in Mexico, according to the 2020 Population and Housing Census, four out of every 100 men and six out of every 100 women aged 15 and older cannot read or write.

During its report, AMLO reported on progress and its next objectives in the field of education, where it proposed the improvement of institutions, announcing that currently 68,000 schools have received this benefit to improve their maintenance. He also specified that parents will be responsible for managing this budget hand in hand with the school authorities.

Finally, she explained that with the support of teachers, teachers and pedagogues, the content of 97 textbooks has been reformed so far and 172 titles and 27 complementary printed books have been acquired. This with the aim of improving the knowledge of educators and learners in all subjects.

“Update the contents of textbooks, grant scholarships at all school levels to students from poor families and maintain good educational facilities with the delivery of budget to societies of mothers of fathers and guardians of students,” Obrador commented during his morning report.
