The long history of Scrat in The Ice Age

In 2002, a prehistoric animated film was screened worldwide without premeditation that it would become one of the great film franchises. The Ice Age, directed by Chris Wedge, was a complete blockbuster with more than $380 million raised worldwide. With this title, the production company Blue Sky Studios and the then distributor, 20th Century Fox, secured a future for this 3D animation saga featuring fictional animals.

In fact, the story begins with Scrat (voiced by Wedge himself), a saber-toothed squirrel who is dedicated to stealing nuts and acorns to keep them in a tree where he will spend the winter, as the ice age approaches. When he manages to find his food, he tries to store it in the least appropriate place - ice - and it unleashes a terrible catastrophe.

This furry and nervous creature reappears in the next installments until the release of the fifth film in 2016 and starred in the short films Gone Nutty, No Time for Nuts, Scrat's Continental Crack-up and Cosmic Scrat-Tastrophe. He has crossed paths with the main characters, Manny, Sid and Diego, on multiple occasions and even had a girlfriend named Scratte. This year, he marked his return with his new series The Ice Age: The Adventures of Scrat on the streaming service Disney+.
