Wildfire in the Sierra de Santiago went out of control; possible evacuation of three communities warned

Civil Protection of Nuevo León reported that the forest fire that occurred since March 25 in the Sierra de Santiago went out of control during the night of April 11, so they alerted the possible evacuation of three communities surrounding the area.

According to state authorities, the fire spread to the area of Puerto Genovevo at 30 kilometers per hour, so they informed the communities of La Nogalera, Covadonga and Caballo tail to be aware of a probable evacuation.

Previously, PC had indicated that fire was controlled in areas close to the communities of Mesa del Oso, El Tejocote and Ciénaga de González, and at the moment the population was not alerted to a risk. However, where they have presented the greatest problems is in Port Genovevo.

The mayor of the municipality of Santiago, David de la Peña, commented that “the gusts of wind that are being presented here in Puerto Genovevo are part of a complicated situation” due to the strong gusts of wind that have recently occurred in the entity, he said in a video published on Facebook.

For his part, the director of state Civil Protection, Érik Cavazos, indicated that eight aircraft and 360 brigade members of the three orders of government have been available to fight the fire. Some of the bodies involved in this work are the National Guard, the Ministry of National Defense, the National Forestry and Civil Protection Commission of Santiago, Montemorelos, Guadalupe, Monterrey, and Arteaga, Coahuila.
