The Guadalajara club has had a series of ups and downs in recent tournaments as it has failed to qualify for the league and among the constant demands of the fans are concentrated on the team's technical director. Whenever there are a series of negative results, the first thing that the public does is demand the arrival of a new strategist, so it happened when the name of Antonio Turco Mohamed hovered the bench in the city.
Shortly before Ricardo Peláez, Chivas sports director, ratified Marcelo Michel Leaño as the club's helmsman, one of the options that gained strength was the Argentine coach. Turk Mohamed came very close to leading the Holy Flock, however, the opportunity did not materialize.
Recently, the current coach of the Atlético Mineiro Club of Brazil revealed what happened in relation to his opportunity to lead Chivas in one of the crises he experienced when he did not qualify for the championship contest. In an interview with Fox Sports he gave the details of how he approached the tapatia directive, but that finally the opportunity did not land.
It began by telling how long ago he contacted the Guadalajara board and despite the interest that Turco showed at that time in reaching the tapatia squad, Chivas did not materialize the offer, which is why Mohamed left with the Monterrey Rayados in 2020.
He also stressed that at that time Marcelo Michel was the club's director and that he even had some conversations with him to see how much interest the red and white team was, but despite the conversations they had, there were no bigger offers.
“It was just that I was able to go and we had also talked to Leaño, Leaño was a manager, now he is a technician. I had a conversation with him by zoom and they were talking, specifically there was never anything official,” he said.
When asked on the Fox Sports show whether he would ever make it to the Chivas bench, he said: “Yes, why not? ”.
