said the mayor of Cali, Jorge Iván Ospina, after a tour he made with his government team, officials from Emcali and toilet operators in the city last week in order to seek strategies to mitigate and/or eradicate the problem of garbage in the capital of Valle del Cauca.
The problem has several points of view, because some citizens argue that there is a lack in the frequencies and coverage of toilet services, others point out that the problem is one of citizen culture; in addition, of the “typical” excuses.
That is why yesterday, the mayor's office of Cali presented a “crash plan”, which includes having 108 solid waste collection routes, carrying out 1,934 km of weekly sweeps on the capital's roads and achieving cleaning coverage in public areas of almost 4 million square meters.
The administration ensures that the actions of the plan will have as a priority, to address the separators and main roads that are being affected by a “clandestine dumping” of solid waste. Marco Aurelio Vera, director of the Special Administrative Unit for Public Services, UAESP, said:
the official assured, that this is intended to end the excuse of dumping garbage anywhere because the collection truck does not pass.
This means that toilet companies will have to increase the frequencies in service delivery programs; according to the page of the Cali mayor's office, these are the companies: Clean City, Promo Cali - Valle, Veolia, Environmental Project, Environmental Pro-Environmental, Cleaning and Public Services LYS, Environmental Mission and Environmental Services. On this page are their websites, telephone numbers, emails and social networks; where citizens can contact them and report cases if there is an irregularity.
The Ministry of Public Health in Cali asked citizens on their social networks to separate the waste, remove it when the collection car or truck is nearby and call line 110, if they have “bulky objects”.
In fact, during this Holy Week the mayor's office set up a special plan to clean up the 22 communes and 15 districts of Cali. The plan, which will be led by the UAESP, will prioritize the areas of influence of parishes, religious processions on vehicular roads and massive points of concentration, for example, the tutelary hills. Actions include sweeping roads, banishing gutters, eradicating meadow shoots, collecting solid waste, cutting grass, cleaning vegetable residue, among others.
said Mayor Jorge Iván Ospina.
Together with the mayor's office of Cali, other entities such as the Secretariat of Security and Justice, the Administrative Department of Environmental Management, DAGMA, and the National Police, will accompany the initiative to ensure the inspection, surveillance and control of the actions that will be taken.
