The avalanche that destroyed a mine in the village of La Antigua in the municipality of Abriaquí in Antioquia, left 14 dead in total, this information is confirmed thanks to the latest report by the Administrative Department of Risk Management of Antioquia (Dagran). Yesterday, the last victim who was missing was found, who had been dragged several meters by the tributary that caused the emergency, this fact dismayed not only the Antioquia community, but the whole country, as the stories reveal a scary panorama.

According to the Dagran, the victim was identified as Jesús Antonio Cruz Hidalgo, who was the only person missing from the record of missing persons after the disaster, since it is important to bear in mind that, on April 8, the body of 22-year-old Jader Eliecer Ortiz was found, who was dragged down several meters.

The Dagran report stated: “The lifeless body of Jesús Antonio Cruz Hidalgo, the last person who was missing after the torrential avenue in Abriaqui, was found. A big hug to your relatives. Gratitude to the operating entities for their work in this event that mourns us.” .

In search work, firefighters from the municipalities of Cañasgordas, Frontino, San Jerónimo and Sopetrán participated, in the same way, the Civil Defense of Santa Fe de Antioquia and the Salvamento Minero - Buriticá, in addition to this, there was constant warning from the Volunteer Firefighters of Sabaneta Ponalsar and El Carmen de Viboral, that, in the face of the risk imminent that there was another possible slippage.

It is important to keep in mind that there were no casualties inside the mine, as the avalanche arrived at the casino, where the workers shared their food and on the day of the tragedy; they were preparing to arrange their bags to move to their places, some had their backpacks ready when the sound of the mountain stunned all workers who failed to react in their entirety.

Hernán Darío Carvajal, one of the survivors of the tragedy, told El Colombiano: “I was watching the water in the stream; as it went up and down, I had a feeling that was going to happen because I saw that the ravine is trying to come out, its flow dropped when it stops raining a little, but when I least thought, it I heard the stones hit, when I went out again, that's when it overflowed, I saw the huge wave coming, I told them “an avalanche, an avalanche” and I managed to run, the height of the avalanche was about 4 or 5 meters”.

The tragedy that mourns Abriaquí and the department of Antioquia in general, occurred on April 6 around 6 in the afternoon, after the torrential rains that hit this municipality caused the growth of the La Mina ravine. This event initially ended the lives of 11 people, while two were missing, in addition to this, it left eight injured, who have been gradually recovering in different care centers in this region.

The Government of Antioquia has called on the citizens to avoid walks and outings during Holy Week; both rivers and streams, bearing in mind that the rainy season still prevails due to the incidence of the 'La Niña' phenomenon, where high rainfall strikes this department and areas surrounding.

Likewise, the community is advised to ensure roofs, tiles and sheets, as well as avoid throwing garbage so as not to obstruct the drainage channels, take into account the levels of rivers and streams, to avoid any emergency, and likewise, in case of rain avoid being placed in open fields so as not to risk any mishap with thunderstorms.
