The Ministry of Culture, within the framework of International Book Day, presents the fifth edition “La Independiente. Peruvian Publishing Fair”, to be held from April 20 to 24, from 10:00 a.m. to 08:00 p.m. in the face-to-face and virtual mode, at the headquarters of San Borja.

La Independiente is a space for the exhibition, marketing and promotion of the work of Peruvian publishers, which seeks to generate the dynamization of a wide range of Peruvian content that highlights the diversity of the cultural sector. In this edition, it again has the support of Independent Publishers of Peru (EIP).

More than 70 publishers from 12 regions will participate: Áncash, Arequipa, Cusco, Huánuco, Junín, La Libertad, Lambayeque, Lima, Loreto, Piura, Puno and San Martín.

It should be noted that 24 of the participating publishers are directed by women. It is the highest number in the history of the fair. These 24 publishers come from 5 regions: Huánuco, Junín, Lima, Loreto and Piura.

On this occasion, the novelty will be the establishment of the school strip, which will allow the attendance of different schools that will visit the fair and will meet with publishers and authors of children's literature to talk with them about literary creation.

As in previous editions, the fair will feature a children's reading space, which will be enabled to welcome children and their families. There they will have significant experiences with reading through their own program of 50 full-time activities.

In addition, two specialized mediators will accompany the attendees and develop different dynamics. Among others, there will be readings aloud of stories and poems, loans of books for the living room and craft workshops related to books and reading.

SIXTH YEAR OF THE INDEPENDENT

In its first five years of existence (2017-2021), La Independiente benefited a total of 105 independent publishers from 13 regions of the country: Ancash, Arequipa, Cusco, Huánuco, Junín, La Libertad, Lambayeque, Lima, Loreto, Moquegua, Piura, Puno and San Martín.

In its two formats — fair and collective stand — La Independiente has positioned itself in the country's cultural calendar, being a benchmark for those who make up the entire book and reading ecosystem. Likewise, its development promotes the recovery of a sector that has been hit along with the other cultural industries in Peru.

Therefore, in 2022, La Independiente begins its sixth year as part of a sustained cultural policy, through different formats, and with increasing decentralization, encouraging the participation of publishers that have been formed outside Lima.
