Although officials of the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) had given glimpses of the national coach's refusal to call Javier Hernández, the rumors had their outcome. Minutes after the rivals that the Tricolor will face towards Qatar 2022 were announced, Gerardo Martino himself confirmed that the absence of the Los Angeles Galaxy scorer was by his own decision, although he did not provide the reason.

“Javier (Hernández) isn't there because the coach in turn hasn't chosen him, but there's nothing I have to share with the media. Everything that happens in the National Team is resolved there,” he confessed to the media this Tuesday, April 12.
