Rihanna said that with her boyfriend A$AP Rocky they didn't plan to become parents so quickly. With different sensual looks, the singer posed for the legendary Annie Leibovitz in an impressive photographic production for the cover of Vogue.
In her extensive interview with the publication, Rihanna admitted that she is “scared” to hear stories of other women who have struggled with postpartum depression and who fear “feeling out of emotional control” when she gives birth to her first child.
Talking about her pregnancy and early motherhood, Rihanna confessed that with her partner, who she has been dating since 2020, they did not plan to enlarge the family so soon. “It was not planned. I don't know when I ovulate or any of that kind of crap. We just had fun.”
The music star also recounted some of her cravings: “I usually hate desserts, but suddenly you come up to me with a chocolate-covered donut and take my heart away forever.” Also, he said, can tangerines with salt.
The 34-year-old Barbadian artist told how it was the day she found out she was going to become a mother. “I took the pregnancy test. I didn't waste any time. I called him (A$AP Rocky) and showed it to him. The next morning I was in the doctor's office and our journey began.”
Speaking about the day she gives birth, Rihanna admitted that COVID restrictions may hamper plans to have her friends and family present, but joked that maybe she might just “rent a party bus” to park outside the hospital.
The singer also said that she is determined to continue managing her billion-dollar empire while raising her first child: “Balance is one of my biggest challenges and it always has been. I have businesses that won't work alone. My mom raised all three of us without my resources, so I can absolutely do it.”
Rihanna also defended her redefinition of fashion for pregnant women after having been proudly showing off her baby bump with a series of scantily clad looks. “I hope we can redefine what is considered decent for pregnant women. It should feel like a celebration. Why should I hide my pregnancy?”
“When I found out I was pregnant, I thought, 'There's no way I'm going shopping in a maternity hall. Sorry, it's too much fun to get dressed. I'm not going to let that part go away because my body is changing, '” he added.
While Rihanna and A$AP Rocky began dating in 2020, the couple had been friends since 2013, and the interpreter confessed that it took her a long time to see him from a romantic perspective.
He admitted that his romance with Rocky slowly blossomed during the pandemic and described him as “his family during that time”.
As she prepares to welcome her first child, Rihanna said she never planned to get pregnant out of wedlock: “I always thought it would be marriage first, then a baby, but who the hell says it has to be like this? I'm certainly not going to let that get in my way of being a mother.”
The rapper, 33, confirmed that they were dating in May 2021 in an interview with GQ, where he called the Barbadian-born singer “the love of his life”. It was in January when the couple announced that they were expecting their first child with some photos of them together.
The nine-time Grammy winner has yet to confirm the sex of her baby, however, the founder of Fenty Beauty was seen buying dresses at a Target store, prompting many of her fans to speculate that she is expecting a baby girl.
