Since April 4, Santa Marta and the rest of the country has been shocked by the discovery of a two-year-old baby dead on one of the beaches in the area near Buritaca. The minor was identified as Samuel Guerrero after a man claimed to be the father of the baby; since then he also knew that the boy's mother disappeared.

Jenny Alexandra Higuera Casallas, as revealed by Edwin Guerrero (father of the minor), is the name of her ex-partner, who disappeared with their baby on April 1 in Bogotá; then the child's body was found on the beach by a couple of tourists. Recently, it transpired that a video on security cameras would have captured the woman walking through the streets of Santa Marta without the baby.

The video was captured by the security cameras of a commercial premises in the area. The video shows a woman with characteristics similar to those of the mother of the minor found dead, walking through the streets of the Troncal Caribe, in the Puerto Nuevo sector, in the district of Guachaca, near the beach where her son was found.

Apparently, the woman is barefoot and disoriented; however, the authorities have not yet confirmed that it is Higuera, since the hypothesis that the woman is dead has not been ruled out. Even so, his body has not been found in the middle of the search undertaken by Coast Guard, Community and Police personnel for water and land after finding the minor.

Another issue that has transcended are the statements given to the RCN Santa Marta radio station by the child's maternal grandmother, Soraida Casallas, who pointed out that her daughter had arrived in the capital of Magdalena fleeing Edwin Guerrero, the child's father. It is worth remembering that Guerrero told this same station that on the day he went to pick up his son from his ex-partner's house on April 1, but he didn't find anyone, since then he reported them missing in the country's capital.

Higuera's mother told the media that “he (Edwin Guerrero) threatened my daughter a lot, tormented her saying he was going to take away the child, that situation led her to a state of stress to the point of despair and getting sick.” Another of the woman's relatives have indicated that they only have information that Samuel, the two-year-old boy, died of drowning, while the whereabouts of his relative have no details.

The woman's family has collaborated with the search and went to La Guajira with the intention of finding the child's mother, efforts that have so far not had favorable results. For his part, Julio Cárdenas, Higuera's stepfather, pointed out that the relationship between the child's parents was not the best, “all that situation pushed her to flee Bogotá, because she was afraid that he would take the child away from her”.

It should be noted that the regional newspaper El Heraldo had previously indicated that there are versions of an alleged video of security cameras, held by the police, in which the minor can be seen in the arms of a woman, who is believed to be his mother.

For now, the authorities only have as clues as to the fact what was revealed by the tourists who found the minor. According to the newspaper El Colombiano, a couple of tourists saw a small blue car on the beach, when they approached they found the baby dead; in addition, the authorities have not revealed much about the possible cause of death of the minor, but preliminary reports known to the media report possible suffocation by immersion (drowning) and that the body does not appear to show signs of violence.

It is still expected that Legal Medicine will be the entity that will release more details soon. Meanwhile, uniforms from the Prosecutor's Office and Civil Defense are advancing with tours of the beach where the minor was found to collect more testimony. Specifically, tourists found the youngest at kilometer 46 on the way to Buritaca, a sector known as Playa Bonita or Playa Linda, in the early hours of Monday, April 4.
