The crisis in migration is increasingly critical and on social networks the affected users are desperate, as it has been reported that until November there are no appointments for process the Peruvian biometric passport.
This problem adds to the chaos that is being experienced in the offices in Lima and other regions of the National Superintendency of Migration, where hundreds of people are standing in long queues to be able to process the document, which is essential for international travel.
The problem with appointments was reported in January of this year when it was reported that the Migration website no longer gave dates for handling the delivery or processing of passports or other documents.
At the time, the then manager of the National Superintendency of Migration, Paul Caiguaray, pointed out that the problem with scheduling appointments has to do with the reduction of capacity in migrations due to the pandemic and they could not attend 100% and, therefore, they take only a certain number of appointments. However, with the biosafety protocols and the regulations of having the three doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to enter the different establishments, the failure in the system is not explained.
“You are in Lima, you want to travel in August and the appointment is for November. It is not the fault of the citizen is the government, migration depends on the Minister of the Interior. They changed the heads of the institution and placed people who have no experience only know about corruption,” wrote one user complaining about the lack of appointments.
The screenshot shared by the user on social networks shows that the closest appointment is in Loreto and Madre de Dios, where there is programming for the first days of August, that is to say in four months, while in Lima, the closest appointment to process the passport is between November 3 and 21.
“Now: there are no appointments, they give you an appointment for 8 months (hopefully), and they said 'don't worry, go to the airport and get in the office there without problems, everyone is going to have their passport',” said another user complaining about the chaos that occurred yesterday at Jorge Chávez airport due to the failure in the printing system that did not allow this document to be issued on time and caused about 100 people miss their flights to the United States, Europe and other Latin American countries.
Yesterday, through a statement, Migraciones indicated that “following the demand for passports arising due to the proximity of the long holiday, the current administration has managed to obtain an advance of delivery of the travel document by the contracted provider this year, which will be sent today to our various offices.”
“Likewise, by July 2022, we will have received a total of 700,000 passports to cover the demand of citizens this year,” they emphasize.
“The National Superintendency of Migration apologizes to the citizens for the incidents that occurred at Jorge Chavez International Airport and at the headquarters, and ensures that the correct care of citizens will be carried out without major problems,” they say.
THEY ASK TO EXTEND THE VALIDITY OF PASSPORTS
In addition, several users said that Migraciones should extend the validity of passports as a solution to this crisis that is currently being experienced in Peru, but this request would not be viable, since at the time of issuance, each document comes with an identification number and when renewed it changes.
“The problem with revalidation with a seal is that they don't accept it outside the country. Passports contain many security elements to prevent copying and/or forgery,” said another user.
Therefore, the National Superintendency of Migration announced that it will attend the holidays of Thursday and Good Friday in order to be able to comply with the thousands of requests and avoid the long queues and complaints that have occurred in recent days.
