José Manuel Figueroa failed to make a bust in honor of his father in Taxco because, he argued, he rather has the face of Pedro Rivera, Jenni's father.
During Joan Sebastian's anniversary in Jualiantla, Guerrero, José Manuel Figueroa spoke with Despierta América about a bust that caused controversy on social media and was very upset by what was done, although he also joked about the similarity that the sculpture's face has with Jenni's father Rivera, Spain.
And it is that in Taxco, Guerrero, on April 8, a sculpture was placed that caught the attention of the residents of Joan Sebastian street, because, although it bears the name of the singer-songwriter, it does not have its features.
After some Taxqueños portrayed the bust and shared it on social networks, it sparked mockery, angry comments and indignation, as some consider it a mockery of the sculpture that was previously in that place, it was bronze and was stolen.
José Manuel said he was grateful that the population had tried to replace the bust, but he thinks that the right thing was not done, so the strange factions of the sculpture would be the result of a bad organization: “The gesture is ultimately appreciated, in the end I think they organized it lousy, fatal”, he said.
In 2011 in Taxco, the bust was made in honor of Joan Sebastian due to his long career as a singer-songwriter. The sculpture copied the face of the tattoo artist in bronze and was placed on the street that was named after him in his honor, however, it was stolen when he died.
The singer's firstborn son always assured that the theft was due to the fact that the figure was not placed in the proper place, as it was inside an alley.
On this occasion, José Manuel argued that he has not succeeded in putting a new bust, or getting the one that was already there to return, because people, as well as some relatives, have hindered him.
“There was a bronze bust, it was stolen 12 years ago. Since my father died, I have been looking on the one hand, on the other, but, unfortunately, there is a lot of grid, many people who are against, many relatives too, you have to be very frank and very right,” he said.
He also commented that he is willing to donate a new bronze figure that honors his father and not Pedro Rivera, but only if the authorities assure him that he will not be in an alley again.
This is not the first time that the singer has reproached the poor location of his father's bust, because several years ago, in 2019, he had already started talks with the Taxco authorities to assure him that the sculpture would be relocated if he donated a new one, he would have already had it done.
However, an agreement could never be reached and José Manuel decided not to put his money at risk.
