In 2019, Senator Jonatan Tamayo, better known in the political sphere as Manguito, said that there were “indecent” politicians and congressmen on the Decency List. His criticism, which was received by the well-known members of that coalition Gustavo Bolivar and María José Pizarro, caused the Supreme Court of Justice to reach a lawsuit against the controversial parliamentary.
However, to the misfortune of the detractors of today's senator Uribista, the high court announced in recent hours that it will not open an investigation against him for his controversial statements, which were massively disseminated on his social networks, where he is very active.
Several militants of the so-called Decency List asked the Court to investigate Manguito for insult and slander, since he linked that bench to being in favor of drug addiction, among others. What's more, even before the Council of State they asked to remove his inauguration as senator, which he won in the ASI party in 2018.
The comments of the senator, who will not return to Congress in the next parliamentary term after burning in the last elections, were made during a debate and, as already mentioned, on social media. There, again and again he assured that “the List of Decency does not exist”.
What's more, he even shared some rhymes and began to sing, where he praised himself, he said that contrary to the progressive politicians he criticized he was “decent”. Moreover, he said that he was coherent against Gustavo Bolivar and Gustavo Petro, today presidential candidate of the Historical Pact.
“One of the shortcomings of these people is cowardice. (...) Don't be a scoundrel, Gustavo Bolivar, you were the one who deceived the electorate,” said Tamayo, while leaving other compliments to former President Álvaro Uribe Vélez, his political chief, natural leader of the Democratic Center.
All these questions were enough arguments, according to the petrists, to bring complaints against Tamayo. For example, representatives María José Pizarro (now elected senator of the Historical Pact) and Ana María Robledo joined Gustavo Bolivar and other legislators in denouncing Manguito.
However, despite the previous arguments cited, the Supreme Court reaffirmed the decision it delivered in 2019 when the lawsuit came to them and argued that what Senator Manguito said against the 'decent' was not insult or slander.
Moreover, the court assured that any Colombian can speak freely, whether on their social networks or in the media, as long as their premises are part of the national situation and debate.
It should be remembered that it was pointed out that the congressman had offered hallucinogens in exchange for votes in the 2018 elections and that is why they asked for Manguito's seat to be canceled. Moreover, they even asked that she be declared lost in investiture or, as it is colloquially known, political death, which prevented her from returning to electoral elections.
“He voted for the general budget, the Development Plan, the objections (of which he was also rapporteur in favor of the Government), he constantly visits the Casa de Nariño, and he has not accompanied us, even once, in any of the initiatives we have had,” the representative María José Pizarro questioned in 2019.
