On March 9, a day after Sasha Sokol told about her elusive relationship with Luis de Llano, with whom she had a teenager and he was a man many years older than her, actor Mauricio Martínez also told his own story of abuse.
The singer also published an extensive thread in which he detailed that in the 2000s he sought an artistic opportunity and went to Toño Berumen, former group representative musicals such as Mercury and Earth Zero, to present you with an audition.
“In the same year as Operación Triunfo, I studied for 6 months at CEA. A classmate who knew I also sang introduced me to Toño Berumen. Ask him how he did the day his hand went where he didn't belong that pig. I was a 23-year-old adult and I was able to defend myself. But how many don't?” , he wrote.
Martínez said that the man then touched him undue, in addition to realizing that in the bathroom of his office he had a hidden video camera, which he would use to capture young men who came to him with the intention of participating in castings.
After that, the actor who lives in New York and has participated in off Broadway plays, traveled to Mexico City to go to the Attorney General's Office to file a criminal complaint against the man who has not reappeared publicly.
It was on March 17 when Mauricio came to file the complaint, an action he did to encourage the victims who have been silent for years. “A week ago it was just a tweet in solidarity with a very brave woman, Sasha Sokol. How sad to realize that there were so many more of us and that so many have been silent for years. For all of them, my moral obligation is to do what I did: denounce that criminal. Never again #ANosotrosTambién,” wrote the graduate of Operación Triunfo Mexico on Twitter.
At the same time, Mauricio said that following his public complaint made on Twitter, other people approached him to tell him about their own experiences of harassment and abuse with the former representative and businessman.
It has now been revealed that there are already ten complaints against the music producer for harassment, abuse and rape. It was Diana Murrieta, president and spokeswoman of the civil organization Nosotras por ellas, who revealed that the complaints against Berumen were filed between March 16 and April 7 in the same capital prosecutor's office and in those of two states.
The feminist essence organization has been supporting the victims and giving them legal support in their complaints. Murrieta said that there are at least 17 other complaints, of which the accusations date back more than two decades.
“Among the complainants, all men, there are some who were minors at the time of the alleged assault. The victims were between 15 and 35 years old. A lot of people want to talk,” the spokeswoman told LatinUs.
The accusations against Jesús Antonio Tiburcio Berumen, the former manager's full name, are not new, because a year ago he was also publicly denounced by Jesús Falcón, a singer who participated in the programs La Academia and Operación triunfo, and managed to join the M5 group, where he was harassed by Berumen.
“In 2005 I entered and everything seemed incredible, until I began to see the ways that Toño Berumen had of psychologically mistreating, bullying his artists, including me, who he made him suffer a lot. You had to greet him with a kiss,” he told TVNotas magazine in April 2021.
“He tried to sexually abuse me. It was very ugly, he was drunk, threw me into bed and we had to struggle. He wanted to kiss me, I felt his saliva, his whole body on top of me, but I drew strength from I don't know where and I managed to get out of it. It is a sexual and psychological predator,” he added.
