After Britney Spears surprised the whole world with the news of her pregnancy, it became known what her ex-husband and father of her two children, Kevin Federline, thinks.
“Kevin, like the rest of us, found out from his Instagram post and wishes him a happy and healthy pregnancy,” said Mark Kaplan, Federline's lawyer. “He congratulates her and Sam Asghari on the excitement of planning parenthood together,” he concluded.
Spears, 40, announced Monday that she is pregnant with her third child, six months after a judge in Los Angeles ended the guardianship that, according to the “Princess of Pop”, prevented her from having more children.
Spears had expressed her desire to get married and have more children during her hearing on June 23. Before Judge Brenda Penny, who was handling her case in a Los Angeles court, the artist related that she wanted to start a family with her partner, but that her father would not allow it. She said she was forced to use an IUD to avoid becoming pregnant.
“I took a pregnancy test and I'm going to have a baby,” she revealed on her Instagram account. He also said that “it won't come out so much anymore” to avoid being followed by paparazzi.
The couple, who met on the set of the music video for “Slumber Party” in 2016, announced their wedding plans in September 2021 after nearly five years of dating.
Asghari asked his girlfriend to marry a ring engraved on the inside “Leona” because it is the nickname by which he calls her.
Her commitment came amid the artist's legal battle to regain control of her life and a $60 million estate. His guardianship officially ended in November after 13 years under the control of his father, Jamie Spears.
In her confusing announcement, the singer also gave an account of her struggle with perinatal depression during her first two pregnancies, saying it was “absolutely horrible”.
“Women didn't talk about it back then, but now women talk about it every day. Thank God we don't have to keep that pain a secret,” the singer wrote in her post.
The actor and model later confirmed the happy news in a publication of his own. He addressed through social media with a message full of happiness. “Marriage and children are a natural part of a strong relationship full of love and respect,” he wrote. “Parenthood is something I've always longed for and I don't take it lightly.”
Asghari believes Britney's pregnancy should have happened much earlier. “Yes, I mean, this should have happened three years ago,” the actor told BBC in an interview conducted before the singer announced her pregnancy.
Spears was previously married to Federline, with whom she shares her children Sean Preston, 16, and Jayden James, 15. She also had a brief marriage in Las Vegas to her childhood friend Jason Alexander that was annulled after just 55 hours in 2004.
