In recent days there have been cases of attacks against the LGBTI+ population in Colombia. In fact, recent months saw a series of hate crimes recorded in Medellin, where six men were killed just for being part of this community.
In Bogotá on April 10, a Twitter user reported a serious act of homophobia in the north of the city. According to Mayra Corredor, last Saturday at 3 am she met a group of friends waiting for a taxi and there was a gay couple nearby, also waiting for transport to the Astor Plaza exit. She reported that two men arrived who began to beat and insult the couple in front of everyone who was in the place.
Now information about the identification of aggressors is circulating on social networks. “The alleged aggressors in these hate crimes are Andres Lara (1) and Brayan Nemocon (2). Please be careful and report if you see them on the street. Prosecutor's Office wants truth and justice in this case,” says the message published by Luis Carlos Leal, councilman of Bogotá.
In social networks, the identity of those responsible is already trending, and users are asking for immediate action by the competent authorities. For now, neither the mayor nor the Secretariat of Security headed by Aníbal Fernández de Soto nor the Bogotá Police have commented on this matter.
“Out of nowhere, two unknown guys come to hit them. They knock one out of a fist and call him “for a fag.” We (who were four of us) without understanding anything and in shock, we only reacted until the second blow. For a fag,” said Mayra Corredor on Twitter.
Then, the group of four people started yelling at the aggressors so that they would no longer beat the couples, who also decided to attack them.
“We started shouting things at them to stop hitting them and then we became the target. What I remember from then on is fuzzy, I suppose because of the adrenaline rush of that moment,” the woman continues.
According to the young woman, they managed to take a gun from one of the aggressors thanks to the help of an orderly from where they were being assaulted, but one of the men managed to hit her with a stick in the face.
“The fact is that we managed to knock one down and take away a knife he had, while the other one out of nowhere gets a stick ready for everything. At that moment the orderly leaves the building with a drum. Blows come and go and in that the man manages to hit me with the stick in my face”, he added.
And he stressed that “both guys busted and still didn't stop. They were shooting to kill. The situation had already gotten out of control, there was blood everywhere, and we decided to get into the building. Once inside, the manes start throwing stones at the glass door that had the entrance. The manes break the door and go to finish what they find. The four of us and the two boys started to climb up the building while the neighbors start coming out with sticks and things to stop them.”
Corredor reported that although they tried to contact the National Police, the latter never arrived at the scene of the incident and attached a video of the aggressors.
