Waldemar Cerrón responds to María del Carmen Alva on the possibility of advancing elections

The President of the Congress, María del Carmen Alva, surprised to show some openness to advance of elections as one of the ways out to stop the crisis facing the country. While there are those who took the parliamentary statement with ease, there are those who have decided to show their rejection of the possibility of Peruvians and Peruvians going to the polls to renew members of the political class.

The official Waldemar Cerrón responded by saying “Let those who do not want to work leave, those who do not agree with the service to the majorities , let those who have believed that the country belongs to them leave and because they won a match that they do not like, everyone must leave. Down with the politics of hatred and envy”.

The spokesman for the Peru-Libre bench stressed that those elected in the 2021 elections must remain in office during the period that corresponds to them; that is, until July 2026. Regarding the work of the Legislature, he said that from there measures designed to benefit the population have been approved, although there are those who refuse to recognize that there is a new government.

“The elections have been given to consider a period of 5 years. If there are people who do not understand that we are in a different government, that has just approved this compensation of 100% service time to teachers, that is exonerating the payment of basic goods to IGV, and that is in favor of the majority, why should I leave?” , he said from outside the seat of the Legislative Power.

FEEL CITIZEN

A recent Ipsos survey has revealed the perception that citizens have about the work of the Executive and Legislative Branches. On the latter, the study reveals that only 12% of respondents believe that it does a better job than that led by President Pedro Castillo. However, despite constant criticism of the president, the Executive obtained 20% support. An overwhelming 64% consider that neither of them is doing good management and only 4% do not need their position.

The research carried out by Ipsos also reveals that 63% is the percentage of respondents who indicated that Pedro Castillo should resign, compared to 35% who believe that his government should last until the period for which he was elected. Only 2% do not specify their position on this question. It should be recalled that both Congress and the Office of the Ombudsman have sent a statement to the president asking him to resign from the position to which he was elected in the middle of last year.

Faced with Pedro Castillo's possible departure from office, it should be recalled that at the end of March, a survey by the Institute of Peruvian Studies (IEP) showed that 80% of respondents believe that in this scenario general elections should be called. However, during the last few days several representatives of the Executive have repeated on several occasions that the president does not intend to resign.

“No way (he won't give up). President Castillo is solid, President Castillo has the strength of democracy, he has the strength of a process that elected him as president because the country did not want the other option,” said the Minister of Culture, Alejandro Salas, during the days marked by protests in various parts of the country.
