Before planning a trip, it is the duty of travelers to review the list of documents they need to be able to enter and transit through international territories. In some cases, it will be necessary to process an authorization, such as a Visa, to access the destination. Therefore, it is necessary that you process your passport in time in order to avoid setbacks such as those that occurred at Jorge Chávez International Airport because of the collapse in the document printing system.
Thanks to agreements and treaties of the Peruvian government, there are some countries that can be entered by presenting only the DNI and/or passport, which presents our data to identify ourselves as Peruvian citizens.
WHAT IS THE PASSPORT AND WHAT IS IT FOR?
It is a travel document with information about the identity and nationality of a person, which enables them to travel and exercise free international transit.
There are four types of passports, but only the Ordinary Passport can be freely requested by citizens. The others are delivered only in specific cases established by law.
The Ordinary Electronic or Biometric Passport is available to all citizens. The old Mechanized Passport (issued until July 7, 2016) is no longer valid, so you will have to process the new one. This document is issued in the national territory by Migrations, while abroad it is carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the consular offices of Peru.
With your passport, you can travel to different destinations outside Peru, but some countries require that you process a visa in order to enter. There are also countries where you can travel using only your ID.
TYPES OF PASSPORT
In addition to the ordinary one, there are other types of documents. These are:
- Special Passport: only for officials and persons holding certain positions in the State, traveling on official missions, among others.
- Diplomatic Passport: only for ambassadors, members of the diplomatic service, presidents and their spouses, former presidents and other authorities during their term of office.
- Others established by international conventions or agreements.

Due to the pandemic, a large number of authorities around the world are updating the restrictions that apply to locals and tourists. It is for this reason that it is recommended to make a complete review of the measures they have taken, such as curfew, quarantine, social distancing, wearing a mask, among others.
If you travel by plane, you should check the conditions of your trip, such as the time you have to go to the airport, the documents to be presented, the timely check-in and size of the bags that are allowed to be transported, as well as the prohibited items that you should not include in your belongings.
