Holy Week came as a season for religious rejoicing, but also for rest, because it is used as a school break for students and, as well, as an opportunity to travel on the holidays of Thursday and Good Friday.

But there are many people who decide to stay in the capital, where it is also possible to enjoy a wide range of plans on these days off. The city has more than 300 parishes and churches distributed throughout its territory, becoming one of the epicenters of the country for those who wish to participate in the Catholic tradition and learn about the cultural and architectural history of these religious sites.

In addition, there are other attractions ideal to disperse the mind these days and enjoy good times with the most loved ones. Thinking about it, we tell you about some of the plans you can make during this Holy Week in Bogotá:

In this sector of the city is the Sanctuary of Monserrate where the parishioners climb to find the “saint christ fallen to the flogging and nailed to the cross”. Right next to it is the Guadalupe Hill, located at 3,317 meters above sea level, with a church that has a Virgin on its dome.

Another must-see is the Primate Cathedral of Bogotá, located in the Plaza de Bolivar. It was designed by Domingo de Petrés and built between 1807 and 1823. But its history dates back to 1553, when Fray Juan de los Barrios made the decision to build the temple.

The Zipaquirá Salt Cathedral is carved entirely in salt and is considered the “First Wonder of Colombia”. It is built 180 meters underground in the mines of this municipality located 48 kilometers from Bogotá.

It was made by Roswell Garavito in 1995 inside the hill of Zipa, where the Zipaquirá Salt Park is located. The cathedral, which required the extraction of more than 250,000 tons of salt for its construction, replaced a small chapel used by miners since 1930 for their prayers and which was closed in 1992 because it was not entirely safe.
