Options to restore from the “hidden” trash in mobile, cloud or applications

The mobile phone has become the photo and video camera par excellence of the vast majority of users. Dozens and even hundreds of photos are taken every week.

The problem is that many times that content is deleted, either to gain space or by mistake. Then some time passes and you suddenly want to recover that valuable material that was removed a while ago. What to do in such cases?

1. Search the bin

As a first step, it should be known that most Android phones such as iPhones have a trash bin in the photo gallery where the content that is being deleted goes. The content stays there for up to 30 days.

In the case of Android, go to Gallery, click on the three horizontal bars in the lower right corner, choose the option that says Trash, and recover the corresponding photos or videos.

In the case of iOS, you have to enter Albums, navigate the menu to the bottom that says “Deleted” and there select restore the content.

2. Go to the cloud

On both iOS and Android, the system may have been configured to back up all multimedia content in the cloud. On iOS it is usually done in iCloud, although it can also be done in Google Photos. In the case of Android, this option is most commonly used, although it is also possible to use other cloud service providers.

iCloud

Enter iCloud Drive and click “Just Deleted” in the bottom-right corner of the window. Then you can choose the option that says “Recover everything” or select each file that you want to restore.

On iCloud.com, you can recover deleted files to iCloud Drive and other apps within 30 days, regardless of whether they were deleted from your device. However, you cannot recover or restore files that have been permanently deleted.

Google Photos

Log in to the Google Photos app and search for the photos or videos you want to recover. You can filter the content by date, type, name (if it is the image of a person who was previously tagged with their name), etc. You can also review the trash can within this space.

At the bottom of Photos, tap Library and then Trash. You have to press and hold the photo or video you want to restore. By doing so, the content will appear again in the Google Photos library as well as in the phone gallery.

Content may not be available there if any of these things happened:

to. It was deleted more than 30 days ago.

b. The trash was previously emptied.

c. The system was not configured to back up all the audiovisual content of the mobile phone in this cloud.

3. Use other specific applications to recover photos and videos

In case the content cannot be recovered either in the trash in the mobile gallery or in the cloud, then you have to resort to third-party applications. There are several options, some work better than others.
