After MariFer's death, feminists from Nuevo León claim the disappearance of women

On April 7, the lifeless body of María Fernanda Contreras, a 27-year-old girl who had been searching for four days before, was found

After having found the lifeless body of MariFer Contreras on April 7, women and feminist collectives called for a march for the murder of the young woman, as well as to clarify her death and the disappearance of women in that state.

On April 9, the Attorney General's Office (FGE) of Nuevo León confirmed that the body found on Thursday 7th in Apodaca belonged to María Fernanda Contreras Ruiz, a young man from 27 years old, whom they have been looking for since April 3 and that his murder has not been clarified.

In this context, feminist collectives called for a demonstration this Sunday, which would have had as its starting point the Government Palace. The protest would have started at 3:00 p.m. and would have risen at 7:00 p.m., when the gates of the compound were set on fire.

Minutes earlier, some protesters clashed with state police. According to Twitter users, different people tried to enter the Government Palace by force and, between pushing and beating, those guarding the headquarters of the state executive, prevented them from entering.

After this confrontation, the protesters set fire to the doors of the building.

This is not the only protest of feminist collectives that has taken place these days, because on Saturday, hours after the discovery of the body of MariFer Contreras was reported, nearly 500 women demonstrated in front of the Prosecutor's Office.

Before the demonstrations began, authorities set up fences outside the premises to prevent entry into the compound.

The attendees stood behind the fences and demanded the resignation of State Security Secretary Aldo Fasci Zuazua, who was singled out for revictimizing the missing women.

They also requested that action be taken in response to the increase in the number of missing persons in Nuevo León and that the investigation processes be accelerated in all cases of femicides and disappearances that have occurred in the state.

According to the National Registry of Missing and Unlocated Persons (DPRNO), it reported that, so far this year, 275 women have been reported missing in the state of Nuevo León.

The protesters stressed that in the last month the increase has been evident, as the Prosecutor's Office issued 15 search files for women, of which seven have already been located.

MariFer would have died from a deep contusion to the skull, which was caused by one or a series of very heavy blows to the head, according to forensic reports cited by Milenio.

According to what the family has shared through different interviews, on Sunday, April 3, María Fernanda met with a group of friends in Zona Tec. At the end, he said he would go to the municipality of Apodaca.

Then, between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, he reported to his family to warn that he would return home. However, within a few minutes they lost all kinds of communication and she never came home.

The lack of communication alerted María Fernanda's loved ones, so they launched a social media campaign to achieve their localization. On Monday, April 4, a day later, the FGE released a search form.

The family said that the authorities did not react immediately, which is why they themselves undertook their own investigations and managed to locate MariFer's phone.

With this, the FGE launched search operations in the surrounding areas, thus, with security cameras and interviews, they were able to locate his body, with signs of violence, in a house located on Circuito de las Fincas street, Exhacienda de Santa Rosa neighborhood.
