This April 10 was held on Palm Sunday in Bogotá and, according to the Mayor's Office of the Colombian capital, it passed normally and smoothly. The authorities' report records that nearly 20,000 people visited the traditional religious temples of Monserrate, Guadalupe and July 20.
Likewise, the Secretary of Government, Felipe Jiménez Ángel, informed that a Unified Command Post was installed, from which all activities carried out during Holy Week will be monitored.
The Monserrate trail will be enabled on the following days of Holy Week: Thursday 14th, Friday 15th, Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th April, between 5:00 a.m. and noon, as announced by the mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López.
According to the information from IDRD, on Monday 11 and Wednesday 13 it will be operating from 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and on Tuesday the 12th there will be no service due to maintenance issues, as usual.
It is planned that for the busiest days, people will have as their last option to go down the trail at 4:00 p.m. From that time there will be a sweep so that people do not stay in the place later.
The capacity will be controlled by the talanqueras because according to calculations, approximately in the holy days, there is a rise of 60,000 people daily.
Regional Peak and Plate
On April 7, Mayor Claudia López presented the security measures and mobility plan that will be implemented in the Colombian capital during Holy Week.
“We are preparing for Holy Week, a very special season of reflection for citizens and for those of us who profess the Catholic faith,” said the Mayor of Bogotá, who recalled that during this time thousands of people from Bogotá leave the capital and thousands of tourists also arrive. The president assured that the Ministry of Mobility, the Traffic Police and Bogotá - Metropolitan Region have set up human and logistical teams for the Exodus and Return Plan, in which it is estimated that around 760.00 vehicles will be mobilized between 8 and 17 April.
In the nine exit and entry corridors of the city there will be traffic light plans, transit equipment, logistics and cranes that will support the movement of travelers to be carried out smoothly, said the mayor's office.
For the return of travelers, on Sunday, April 17, the regional peak and plate will operate.
There will be no entry restrictions before noon. From noon until 4 p.m. only cars whose last digit of the license plate is an even number will be able to enter Bogotá. Between 4 pm and 8 pm, only vehicles with odd license plates will be able to do so.
This regional peak and plate has been a success, it has allowed people to return calmly, with less accident, with greater flow, adequate and prudent speed, and in a more comfortable way
The president also explained that there are more than 300 parishes in the city where a security and coexistence mechanism is required. That is why the district administration defined a team of 3,396 police officers, who will accompany the different celebrations that take place during the Major Week. The uniformed will also be on trails, cemeteries, shopping malls, market places, transportation terminals and El Dorado airport.
Finally, the mayor stressed that the capital is ready for the exodus and return of the people of Bogota, as well as for the arrival of tourists. “Welcome all Colombians to commemorate Holy Week in Bogotá,” he said.
