Mexico City is able to make any foreigner fall in love with its many monuments, museums, murals, avenues and its outstanding buildings. The capital is home to several important and historical buildings such as the National Palace, Chapultepec Castle or the Palace of Fine Arts, however, it also houses major avant-garde works such as the Latin American Tower, the World Trade Center, the Virreyes Tower or the Soumaya Museum.
Although these buildings have a large size and are nowadays characteristic symbols of the center of the country, the places mentioned are not large enough to be considered one of the “tallest buildings” of the entity.
It should be noted that among the tallest buildings in CDMX are the BBVA Bancomer Tower, the Torre Mayor, the Pemex Executive Tower and the Paradox Tower, however, none of these leads the list of the highest buildings. This place is occupied by three skyscrapers, which were opened relatively recently: the Mitikah Tower, the Reforma Tower and Chapultepec Uno R 509, better known as Punto Chapultepec.
Mitikah is the name of the largest skyscraper in the capital. It is an urban center that began to be built in 2012, although due to various problems the work was stopped and resumed until 2015. It adorns the landscapes of the southern part of Mexico City, specifically those of Rio Churubusco Avenue in the Xoco neighborhood, Benito Juárez mayor's office.
According to the official website of this complex, its design was based on “an architectural proposal that combines elegant and sophisticated nuances with functional, safe and high-quality elements”. The architect who was in charge of this work was César Pelli, author of numerous iconic buildings in other countries, including: The Canary Wharf Tower in London, NTT Headquarters in Tokyo, the World Financial Center in New York and the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
It is a space that offers multiple amenities to its visitors. It measures 267.3 meters, has 68 floors and has an area of 4,799 square meters.
Reforma Avenue is one of the best known avenues in the country, as it hides several anecdotes along its 14.7 kilometers, among which the story of Maximilian of Habsburg and his wife Charlotte Amelia stands out. However, historical value is not the only thing that makes this space of the City very recognized.
The Reforma Tower is one of the most outstanding elements, because its high height of 246 meters makes it the second tallest building that cannot be hidden from the sight of any chilango.
Construction began in May 2008 and ended the same month but in 2016. It is a complex that stands out for having a restaurant, a shopping center and entertainment areas. The project was in charge of the construction company of the Capital Vertical Building Grupo Inmobiliario, while “LBR y Arquitectos” was responsible for the planning.
It should be noted that 2018 was chosen as the best skyscraper in the world by the International Highrise Award. It also entered the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat's “50 Most Influential Skyscrapers in the World in the Last 50 Years” list.
This building is also located on Reforma Avenue, it measures 241.6 meters high and has 58 floors that offer an incredible view of the City. Construction began in 2014 and work was completed in 2019, when it was inaugurated.
In the planning, consideration was given to designing an anti-seismic structure to provide security and peace of mind to visitors and residents of the place. The project was developed by T69, a company formed by Arquitectoma y Marca.
It should be emphasized that over time the capital has been filled with new structures that gradually took away the title of the largest skyscraper from the Latin Tower.
