A video has been circulated through social networks showing a case of domestic violence that occurred in Pereira. In the clip you can see how, from the window of an apartment located on a second floor, a couple talks with the one who would be the watchman of the set of houses in which the events take place. In the midst of the exchange of words, the man hits the woman heavily in the face. The woman falls while, in the background, a baby is heard crying after the aggression. The minor would be the couple's child.

It has been revealed that the violent events took place last Friday in a residential complex located in the Condina sector, in the capital of Risaralda. The neighbors, altered by the discussion that was taking place in that home, chose to appeal to the authorities.

Javier Raúl Gallego, commander of the Pereira Metropolitan Police, explained that the community had communicated with the institution after hearing a 'heated discussion' between the two citizens. Faced with the call, commented the uniformed, a violet patrol is sent to attend to the emergency. “In an interdisciplinary work, which was attended by the Personería and Ombudsman's Office, the route of care for women victims of gender-based violence was activated,” said the colonel.

“In this accompaniment, the victim filed a complaint of domestic violence with the family commissioner, also providing her with a measure of protection in which a patrol would carry out periodic reviews in order to have permanent contact to ensure her safety,” said the official.

According to what Gallego added, the woman was given the respective psychosocial support from the Commissioner and, through the Public Prosecutor's Office, she was helped to establish the criminal complaint against her aggressor. “At the request of the victim, he was taken to another place to ensure his safety,” said the commander who, in addition, invited people to report this type of incident through line 123 (Emergency Line) and Line 155 hotline for women victims of violence.

This happened just days after the announcement of the activation of the 'violet points' to deal with any case of gender-based violence in Pereira. These were notified in November 2021. “This is one of the most ambitious strategies we have put forward from the Women's Office to give women and girls a life free of violence. They are the safe points; which are spaces in which women can find information and guidance on what mechanisms and routes of care we have for when they are victims of some type of violence,” argued Carolina Palacio Parra, advisor for gender equity at the Los Puntos Women's Office Violet and the Violet Line.

It was also last month when feminist collectives showed the growth in the numbers of violence against women. According to data from the Stella Brand Women's House, so far in 2022, three femicides have been reported in Risaralda and six attempted femicides.

“We continue to demand comprehensive attention to the proceedings because there are six other victims in degrees of attempt who could have been feminized and that is only the cases known in the media; in this sense: What happens to cases that are not reported in the media? What about women who live in fear of being another figure? What about the victims' families? That is why we claim that they are not just figures, they are also stories,” said Natalia Restrepo, director of that organization, in testimonies collected by Caracol Radio.
