A new robbery of a stock truck was reported in Barranquilla (Atlántico), after criminals faced gunfire with the vehicle's guards, last Friday night.
According to the regional newspaper El Heraldo, the robbery attempt occurred exactly on Calle Murillo with Carrera 27, which corresponds to the Chiquinquirá neighborhood, which is located in the northeast of that city. There arrived the escorts of the vehicle who had to make a delivery of money in the area.
As evidenced by the video on a security camera in the area, the criminals surprisingly attack the guards and start an exchange of gunfire in which guard Daniel Enrique González Castro, who crosses the road to safeguard himself, was injured in one of his legs, but later collapsed, they reported in the barranquillero newspaper.
Meanwhile, Caracol Radio reported that the injured man was taken to the General Hospital of Barranquilla where he died on Saturday.
This is the second time that a shooting has been reported during a robbery in that city, after the one reported last week in the El Country neighborhood, in the northeast of the capital of Atlántico, where one of the robbers died.
According to the authorities, the incident occurred at 4:45 a.m. on 78th Street with Carrera 53, at that address is located a Bancolombia ATM, located in the premises of the Country Plaza shopping center, at that time an exchange of fire occurred.
One of the assailants was injured and died. The other criminals who were participating in the theft fled. For their part, the police found the firearm and indicated that they are conducting the relevant investigations and are relying on the footage of security cameras in the sector.
The fatal victim was identified as Jeison De Jesús Vizcaino Caballero, 20 years old. The injured are Edwin Alfonzo Caballero and Mileidys María Carrillo Arrieta. According to the Metropolitan Police of Barranquilla, those mentioned were attacked in race 5b south 18th street. Two men riding a motorcycle reportedly shot at the two men and the woman. The three were transferred to the Campbell Clinic in Barranquilla.
According to the figures that the Metropolitan Police gave at the end of 2021, 365 homicides were recorded in the Atlantic capital during that year, that is, there was a 29 percent increase in homicides, compared to the figures for 2020. In addition, he mentioned that 362 cases of the total number of persons who were victims of homicide in Barranquilla and the surrounding municipalities, recorded judicial records.
