They beat Dibu Martinez with memes for Tottenham's rout against Aston Villa: “Easy, easy”

Days after Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez held Mexico's draw in Pool C Qatar 2022, considering him an easy opponent, he suffered a scandalous defeat to Aston Villa in the Premier League. In the match for matchday 31, Tottenham Hotspur thrashed the Dibu team four to zero at home and Korean striker Heung-Min Son signed a hat-tric k. Hours after the 90 minutes ended, the term Dibu Martínez became one of the most searched for on Twitter. And the fact is that fans on the social network questioned the quality of the first goalkeeper of the Argentine national team because of the mistakes he made in the match against the Spurs. One of the main reasons for the trend was the controversial reaction it generated when it learned that Mexico would be a group rival of its team.

After the draw for the 2022 World Cup, a video starring the goalkeeper went viral. In the material recorded by a family member, he was seen performing an effusive celebration when he heard that the Tricolor would be the third team in Group C. Upon confirming the name of his rival he gave a cry of “Easy, easy” (easy, easy), with a gesture that was supported by his young son.

Martinez's attitude was not well received by the fans and some experts in Mexican football. Several journalists acknowledged the reason for their celebration, although they condemned their effusive reaction. David Faitelson, for example, said that “football games have not been won by talking, threatening or mocking for a long time”, referring to the viral video.

A few days later, the ESPN panelist spoke again about it, writing “what Argentine goalkeeper Dibu Martínez says or doesn't say is very his problem. Argentina will be a big favorite over Mexico in the World Cup, but it won't be a field day for the albiceleste either”, on his Twitter account.

A week later, Aston Villa del Dibu received a visit from the fourth best team of the tournament at home. In the match, Heung-Min Son scored three of the four goals and became the figure. For his role in the victory against the Argentine, several users considered that he led an early revenge of the Mexicans after his attitude in the draw.

“The Mexican Son putting three on Dibu Martínez. Not that very easy”, one user posted on Twitter along with a couple of photographs of the characters. Some other users questioned that he is the best goalkeeper in the Americas because of the nine goals he has received in the four most recent rounds of the Premier League.

Another sector of the fans recalled their performance at the Copa América 2021. Although he was a key player for the albiceleste to win the title, after receiving four goals, some people considered that having scored three penalties in the semifinal against Colombia is the only relevant recognition in his career. In addition, although some mistake of his had no direct interference in the result, his qualities were also questioned.

With the result against it, the team led by Steven Gerrard accumulated its fourth consecutive defeat and is already on the 12th step of the table with 36 out of 63 possible units.
