Over the past few weeks, actor and producer Eugenio Derbez has been in the eye of the hurricane because he has been the target of harsh criticism by supporters of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO).
The signs to Derbez have been given for his participation in the “Sélvame del Tren” campaign, which seeks to stop the construction of Section 5 South of one of the flagship works of the Tabasco administration, the Mayan Train.
On this occasion, Ludovico's performer P.Luche used his Twitter account to release an ironic comment about AMLO's megaproject, however, this one was completely different from the others, as he used his experience in comedy to give it a humorous touch.
“The people from Coldplay have been in Mexico for so long, that they had to see how the Cenotes that will destroy the Mayan Train were formed,” the actor wrote on social networks.
Derbez's message was also given as part of a trend on the platform, with which its users mocked the numerous concerts that the British group has played in some cities around the country as part of their Music Of The Spheres World Tour.
On the other hand, said statements were again the reason why the actor received harsh comments against him: “Unfortunately they haven't taken so long to have seen the real estate and private looting for which they have been silent for years”, “Will the people of Coldplay know that you are not an ecologist but an opportunist?” , “You are a phony in everything”, “You are as false as the conservatives who have always destroyed the country”, were some of the reactions that netizens broadcast.
The campaign consisted of several personalities from the entertainment industry in Mexico participating in a video demanding that the construction of the Mayan Train be stopped due to the likely consequences that it would bring. In addition to Derbez, the audiovisual featured Kate del Castillo, Natalia Lafourcade, Rubén Albarrán, Ana Claudia Talancón, Omar Chaparro, Barbara Morí, to name a few.
“Sélvame del Tren” caused Derbez to confront the Chief Executive, who asked him to be heard to make his position on the case known.
Likewise, the Mexican actor, producer and director also said that they should listen to experts and people in the region, who have denounced that environmental damage is already “irreversible” due to the felling of trees that have damaged the area.
“We just want to be heard and that they take into account the opinions of scientists, environmentalists and people in the region. The ecological damage would be IRREVERSIBLE,” the famous one wrote last April 5.
It is worth mentioning that after the campaign had a wide reach on social networks, during his morning conference on March 23, López Obrador called the involved “pseudo-environmentalists” and “fifis”, in addition to accusing that they had been hired by conservatives to criticize his mega-project.
Later, the actor responded to the president's statements and assured that he was hurt by the disqualifications. In addition, he clarified that he did not receive any payment for participating in this environmental campaign.
“It pains me to be disqualified because I think the lion believes that everyone is of his condition. I don't get yellow envelopes, I don't need that. I earn my money with the sweat of my brow and I do this for the love of Mexico,” said the comedian on March 25 in an interview with Ciro Gómez Leyva.
