At the beginning of the pandemic, Colombians had to spend Holy Week in their homes, due to compulsory confinement measures, so with the reactivation after two years, parishioners will be able to attend traditional missias and rituals in person.
One of the traditional ones is the commemoration of Palm Sunday, therefore, within the plans to share with family or friends is to take a tour of one of the churches that are located in La Candelaria, in the center of Bogotá, all with compelling stories. Some of the churches you can visit are:
Our Lady of the Waters.
Nuestra Señora de Las Aguas is a parish that is located in the 2A race No. 18 A - 68, in the center of Bogotá.
There is no mass scheduled for this Palm Sunday, but it is worth stopping by and admiring its architecture, as it is characterized by being an exponent of mural painting and colonial art. In addition, it was declared as a historical heritage of the Nation.
Church of Our Lady of La Candelaria
The church of La Candelaria is also an architectural heritage of the country, it is located on Calle 11 with Carrera 4, next to the Luis Ángel Arango Library. It has been restored and inside you can see paintings of colonial art, works of murals among others that show its historical and religious value.
Primada Cathedral
The Primada Cathedral is located in the heart of the historic center, in Plaza de Bolivar. It is considered a treasure of colonial art and has chapels, altars and three naves where the tombs of historical figures such as Antonio Nariño and Gregorio Vasquez de Arce and Ceballos rest.
Visiting this imposing cathedral is part of the tourist pass and also of an unmissable religious nature and perfect for this Palm Sunday.
Chapel of the Sagrario of the Cathedral of Bogotá
The Chapel of the Sagrario is located next to the Primada Cathedral. It is considered a religious museum both because of its history and because of its religious bastions. It still retains the original door as a vestige of the years when it was built.
Visiting the Chapel of the Sagrario is a must-see destination for both tourists and those who admire architecture or are faithful believers and participate in the activities of Holy Week.
Church of San Agustín
The church or church of San Agustín is located on the corner of the 7th race and 7th street. Inside is the image of the Virgin of Altagracia, a relief work that combines with the decoration of the walls and ceilings.
It has three naves and, behind the main altar, a space that stands out for its baroque style, covered with gold leaf, paintings, wood and metal sculptures by Jesus of Nazareth, carved by the renowned artist Pedro Luga y Albarracín.
Saint Francis of Assisi
The church San Francisco de Asís are located carrera 7th with Avenida Jiménez. It is characterized by being the first convent built and founded in 1550 when they arrived from Spain, religious who came to formally organize the presence of the Franciscan Order at that time of the New Kingdom of Granada.

La Veracruz Church
The Church of Veracruz, is a temple that was declared a National Pantheon, since it served as the last abode to protect the famous and historical martyrs such as Francisco José de Caldas, Antonio Villavicencio and José María Carbonell.
It is located right next to the church of San Francisco de Asís, on the seventh race and in front of Santander Park.
Church of the Third Order
The Church of the Third Order, is located in the 7th race with 16th street, in what was formerly known as Calle del Arco. Its construction dates back to the 18th century and is famous for its wood carvings.
The church is built with load-bearing walls made of carved stone and brick. The main façade is characterized by the simplicity and sobriety of its composition, with larger stone blocks and an orderly arrangement in regular rows.
Basilica of the Lord of Monserrate
This Basilica is located at the top of Mount Monserrate and for more than 400 years the image of the fallen lord has been venerated by parishioners. If you climb on foot along its path, you can see statues that simulate Jesus' Way of the Cross, which indicates the arrival at the top of the sanctuary.
You can also climb by cable car or funicular (race 2 East No. 21- 48). Sunday Eucharist times are: 6:30 a.m., 8:00 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 12:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
