When someone goes on vacation, it is normal for that person to be uneasy to have to leave the house empty for so many days, afraid that thieves will take advantage of the family's absence to enter, but this risk can be solved if you count Google Home and the Google Assistant.
Thanks to Google Home, you can simulate that someone is at home by automating their processes by allowing connected devices in the home, such as bulbs, compatible lights, speakers or TVs, to turn on and off.
This is how you can simulate the presence of a person with Google Home
To create a presence simulator in Google Home you need to go to Routines, click on the icon to add a new process and when the device asks if you want to schedule a full day routine or not, click yes. This option will allow you to add all the routines for each hour of the day.
The next step is to name the process, for example “At Work”, and select the days on which you want to activate all the processes to be scheduled.
The next thing would be to tell Google Home what actions you want it to take at certain times of the day.
In the+Add new time section you have to choose a time and after clicking 'Next', you can now specify the action you want to perform at that time.
The recommended option is 'Try adding your own commands' due to the flexibility it offers, since this is where you can type any Google Assistant command that you want the Google Assistant to do at that time.
Here you have to select at what time you want a certain action to take place in the house, such as music or radio in the morning, or turn on the lights at night. We also have to choose the speaker or speakers with which we want to perform these actions.
You can type any Google Assistant command to automatically control your device such as:
- “Lower/raise the blinds of the [room name]”
- “Turn on/off the [room name] light”
- “Volume up/down [speaker name]”.
- “Listen to [radio station name]”
- “Stop [speaker name]”.
- “Turn on/off the TV”
- “Listen to music”
If you want to listen to music or radio when you are not at home, you have to create an action that stops playback and that command is “Stop [speaker name]”. Then you can say that the music plays at 8:00 a.m. and say that the music stops at 11:30 a.m.
In addition, you need to create a volume adjustment action for the speaker. It is always best to check before you leave the house that the routines are working properly.
You can also improve the presence simulator through YouTube Music or Spotify if you have a subscription, since paid users can select songs, allowing you to choose sounds or simulate the noise of a vacuum cleaner or washing machine in case you want to deceive neighbors into believing that you are vacuuming the floor or washing clothes.
Here you have to create a playlist with noise and stop playing when it's done so that it doesn't automatically switch to a song, and also adjust the speaker volume to sound like you're really vacuuming or washing the washing machine.
For example, we can create a list of apps that say “Vacuum Cleaner” with a “Vacuum Cleaner” playlist on YouTube Music.
