Sergio Pérez once again enshrined his name in the books on the history of Mexican motorsport, because in the third race of 2022, Checo returned to the top of Formula 1 and, in addition to winning his sixteenth podium, he named his name as one of the candidates to compete for the Drivers' World Championship.
The simple fact of dreaming of the championship is already a success and a victory for the Aztec fans, who once again made their unconditional support evident, because at midnight in Mexico City, more than 200 people gathered at the Courtyard Marriot on Avenida Revolucion to watch the Grand Prix of Australia, where the Czechomania rumbled loudly again.
A fragment of the thousands of tapatio fans gathered under the shelter and organization of the Checo fan club, known on Facebook as Page that lets you know if Checo Pérez won a GP, a group that has almost 100,000 members and which highlighted its call in the capital of the country.
From 9:00 in the evening, three hours before the start of the Australian GP, Sergio's first faithful began to be seen. While they were waiting for access to the salon, the coexistence began to be present and they confirmed the goal of the page: to create a community.
Fans from various parts of the city and even from other entities such as Toluca and Puebla vibrated very loudly, as the welcoming music, adorned with the famous “Cardboard Czechs”, blankets and flags, created the perfect prelude to form a 100% Racing environment.
A list of 220 people
The access list expected more than twice that recorded two weeks earlier during the Saudi Arabian GP, as the name sheets reached the 220 souls looking for a place to share their passion for Checo Pérez and Formula 1, so noise, excitement and even nerves grew as the start time approached.
When the broadcast began and the endearing voices of Fernando Tornello and Chacho López sounded, the bustle of the fans gave their first show of power. The batons quickly rang towards the Jalisco driver and something unusual for motorsport was manifested in Mexico: two hundred people gathered at midnight to see a compatriot seek victory.
In addition to the thousands who saw him from home and at other meetings throughout the country, Czechomania took another step forward, although this time with only one goal: to see Checo Pérez champion, because his formidable start to the season made his fans dream of the world title.
The anthem of the event could be none other than the a cappella song of “Olé, olé, olé, olé, Czech, Czech!” , the one that has been replicated so many times at the Foro Sol during the Mexican GP and which seems to be the new essence of support for Sergio Pérez.
@LaMareaSP11, as it is known on Twitter, with more than 3 years of support
Lily Perstappen, as she is known within the community, is one of the founders of the group and a recalcitrant fan of the Perez-Verstappen duo, so she talked to Infobae Mexico about the intentions of the page and the longing to meet Checo Pérez in the future.
“We have organized some outings, such as to the Museography of the Mexican GP or to places of conviviality, but this is the second time we have organized a race,” said Lily, who from the Saudi Arabian GP took charge of convening the group to see Sergio Pérez in action together.
Checo vs Hamilton starred in the emotion
Regarding the Australian GP, Checo's third place in the Qualifying made his supporters excited, who saw a victory possible at the end of the day.
Lewis Hamilton quickly put the Mexican in predicaments and the fans reacted with disappointment, because in the start the Mexican fell to fourth place and began the fight that gave life to the race: Checo vs Hamilton, where the tapatio triumphant came out on up to three occasions.
Two spectacular overruns provoked the euphoria of the fans present at the Courtyard, who shouted and waved their flags, while cheers and cheers began.
The fight against the seven-time world champion starred in the most joyous moments at the show, where fans were satisfied with the Mexican's performance, because despite not winning and seeing Verstappen's abandonment, Checo Pérez's second place in Australia confirmed that he will fight for the Drivers' Championship.
In the end, the event driven by Sergio's brand new fan club was a resounding success, as they saw Checo defeat Hamilton on the track again, get on the podium and give their fans more reason to get excited about their season, as the goal is to listen several times to the Anthem of Mexico during 2022 and watch the tricolor flag at the top.
