“It was not popular to prosecute Diomedes Díaz,” says former Attorney General Alfonso Gómez Méndez in the documentary 'Diomedes: the idol, the mystery and the tragedy', which, although he gives a general account of the successful career of the artist who was born in the middle of his work as a home owner on Radio Guatapurí, focuses on the death of Doris Adriana Niño, a fan of the one born in La Junta who was found dead in Tunja after sharing with the singer.

According to her brother, Rodrigo, she didn't usually go out at night. In fact, that meeting between the young woman and Diomedes was marked by several elements that, at the time, were key clues to determine what happened on the night of May 15, 1992. Another clue was that the singer insistently called her home, to the point that in the residence located in Soacha (Cundinamarca) they had to change the telephone line.

“I understand that they meet in the middle of the concert, Diomedes is the one who sees her and is dazzled by her, so much so that she sends her to ask for the phone number with an escort (...) The only thing my sister ever told me on a certain occasion is that she was a very unpleasant person”, says Rodrigo Niño in the film where relatives of the vallenato idol also spoke.

Rafael Santos was one of the voices that counterbalanced the version that maintains Diomedes's complicity in the crime of the young woman who was found in Tunja and, later, buried under the name of 'Sandra', a sex worker from the capital of Boyacá.

“Everyone was bought in Tunja,” says Niño to the fact of the workers who took over Doris Adriana's funeral in that city.

In that same documentary, the son of the Chief of La Junta reluctantly warns that his father was innocent and that he was an artist interested in the well-being of his fans. He even released several phrases that, moreover, generate controversy.

“Diomedes made songs for them. He loved them so much that he even gave them children,” says Rafael Santos. So does Jaime Araujo, journalist and friend of Diomedes.

Araújo Cuello himself, who had his own space in the song 'Mi primera cana', was the one who introduced him to Luz Consuelo Martínez, that woman who, in the middle of the singer's clandestine relations, ended up being his first wife and the muse of hits such as 'Tres Canciones' and 'Sin ti', among others.

“It was a fearful relationship,” explains Acosta in the documentary, “women everywhere, but he arrived in Bogotá and was with me. In addition, she clarifies in the documentary that Doris Adriana was never a friend of hers.

“I met her at parties,” says Diomedes in an interview collected by Netflix, “my relationship with her wasn't official, okay? It was an opportunity, like so many. It's not like they're looking for me, is it? Because one is also rogue.

Finally, Diomedes Díaz paid 3 years and 7 months in prison and, incidentally, awarded a million-dollar compensation to the family of Doris Adriana Niño. With all that, both family, friends and managers throughout his career, such as Joaco Guillén, remain in the position that he was innocent.

On the other hand, Rodrigo Niño says that after the crime of Doris Adriana, the artist's “decline” began: “You could never remove that stain from me; a stain that was a homicide that ended it artistically... It's over Diomedes Diaz.”
