“About 800,000 vehicles will leave Bogotá during Easter exodus plan”: Bogotá Mayor's Office

The Mobility Secretariat of Bogotá presented this Saturday the action plan that will be adopted at the outings and entrances of the capital during Holy Week. The strategy, called the Exodus Plan, seeks to ensure smooth traffic through the main road corridors through which nearly 800,000 vehicles are expected to leave.

The district administration explained that during the Major Week, an increase of 1.8 per cent in the number of vehicles leaving the capital is expected, compared to the figure recorded during 2021, when the third peak of the covid-19 pandemic was evident, but 14.8% less than in 2019, the time before the crisis health products produced by the virus.

“We are providing all the necessary personnel for the Exodus plan in the nine exits from Bogotá to help traffic flow in the best possible way, as well as the return plan that is estimated for Saturday and Sunday of Easter in which these 800,000 vehicles will return to the city,” said the secretary for his part. In turn, he indicated that the Return Plan will adopt the regional peak and plate for the return of citizens, which will be in effect from 12:00 noon and 4:00 in the afternoon for even vehicles, and from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for odd vehicles, this measure will be in effect in the surrounding municipality of Soacha.

Similarly, the Secretariat indicated that Wednesday, April 13 is expected to be the day on which the largest number of vehicles leaving the capital will be registered with about 150,000 vehicles, which will be accompanied by members of Road Management and the Guide Group of the Ministry of Mobility, as well as a fleet of 70 cranes that will operate until Sunday, April 17.

“We remind citizens who want to leave the city to do so with all the care of the case, doing the mechanical technical review and verifying that everything in the vehicle is in the best possible way. Just as they have the road kit and of course respecting traffic signs, especially speed, so that we can get to the destinations safely,” said the secretary.

For its part, the National Police, through the Bogotá Transit and Transport Section, had 1,000 uniformed personnel to contribute to the mobility of the nine exits from the capital and the main road corridors, as well as 30 fixed and five mobile checkpoints that will carry out surveillance and control tasks.

“Around 640,000 passengers will travel from the Bogotá Transport Terminal during Easter, mainly to the departments of Cundinamarca, Boyacá, Meta, Huila, Tolima, Valle del Cauca, as well as some destinations on the Atlantic Coast. Compared to 2021, this mobilization represents a 95% increase in passengers and 12% in vehicles. It is expected that the day of greatest passenger mobilization will be Wednesday, 13 April, with 67,000 passengers,” concluded the Secretariat.
