In recent hours, the Mayor's Office of Bogotá presented the first balance sheet of the More Than 25,000 Eyes Atentos strategy, which records that, during the last month, 74 people were caught in flagrante for crimes committed in Transmilenio.
According to this first assessment, what can be seen is that security in TransMilenio buses and stations in 2022 remains alarming, and that is that according to figures from the Ministry of Security, between January and February of this year 1,476 thefts were recorded among users of the system.
On average, 25 robberies per day have been reported in the first two months of the year.
Likewise, it is recorded that during the last month 1,564 bladed weapons and 11 traumatic weapons were seized inside the trunks and service buses.
It is worth remembering that the More Than 25,000 Eyes Atentos strategy, which was launched on March 3, seeks to generate protocols and coordination between the agents of the system (drivers, ticket offices, private surveillance personnel, coexistence managers, the Mass Transport Police, among others) for emergency care in TransMilenio.
In addition, as part of the strategy, 8,792 users were trained on aspects of pedagogy and road safety, of which 1,028 were students in schools. The latter seeks to reduce emergencies and developments in the system, as well as improve coordination between users and agents.
Since the implementation of this new Comprehensive Security Plan for TransMilenio, it has had a Police and Security Command exclusively for the system, which will work with the Secretariat for Women to deal with possible cases of harassment; in addition to the nearly 30,000 security cameras.
“Transmilenio has 25,000 eyes of public servants looking after us every day, it has drivers, supervisors, station managers, Tu Llave staff, members of the Police, private security and general services, who know the anti-harassment and anti-theft reporting protocol that citizens can go to,” warned the mayor Claudia Lopez at the time.
Based on this new strategy, TransMilenio has consolidated new management protocols in which all its agents, drivers, ticket offices, private surveillance personnel, road service teams, system hosts, coexistence managers, members of the Mass Transport Police command, service people general and nurses, are able to guide and care for users who are victims of crime or affected by emergencies.
This strategy also calls for Bogotá Police Stations to be linked to the TransMilenio control center to view security incidents occurring on buses in real time.
In a statement, the Mayor's Office of Bogotá detailed that TransMilenio will operate in its normal hours and operations during the days of Holy Week.
Firstly, on holidays corresponding to Thursday 14 and Friday 15, the trunk system will operate during the same hours of operation from Monday to Saturday, from 4:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
With regard to the buses of the Integrated Public Transport System (SITP), the mayor's office suggested that users consult the TransmiApp application, since the vehicles do not start or end operation at the same time. With this tool, passengers will be able to check trips in real time and thus plan their routes.
