They capture alias Maluma, alleged hit man of the Gulf Clan

The person under investigation was captured by members of the Police and the National Army in the Botero neighborhood in Sincelejo

The Attorney General's Office recently announced the capture of an alleged hit man from the Gulf Clan criminal structure. This is Anderson José Mercado Mendívil, alias Maluma, who would be responsible for several homicides.

The accusing body charged the subject with the crime of homicide in heterogeneous competition with the manufacture, carrying and trafficking of firearms, accessories or ammunition. The charges were endorsed by a Sectional Prosecutor from Sucre who ordered the measure of insurance in prison against the accused.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, in the course of the hearings it was possible to establish that alias Maluma is allegedly responsible for the murder of Carlos Andrés Hernández Botero, known as 'El Causa'.

The investigating body established that Hernandez Botero was attacked with a firearm by the defendant in events that occurred on January 16, 2022 in Sampués, Sucre.

The capture of José Mercado Mendívil took place on April 4, when members of the Police and the National Army surprised him on public roads in the Botero neighborhood, located in Sincelejo.

The Office of the Prosecutor General of the Nation indicated that investigations are continuing with a view to establishing whether the accused would apparently be involved in other murders as an alleged hit man of the Gulf Clan.

Other alleged members of the Gulf Clan sent to prison

Earlier this month, the authorities announced the capture of three other subjects who would be part of this criminal structure called the Gulf Clan. The arrests were carried out in Antioquia.

On the one hand, the Special Directorate Against Criminal Organizations of the Prosecutor's Office succeeded in the prosecution of Felix Mauricio Sierra Yepes, alias Felipe or El Viejo, one of the designated leaders of the Erlin Pino Duarte substructure of the criminal structure in question.

This person would be responsible for coordinating and ordering armed actions in Sao Paulo, Cantagallo and Simití, in the south of Bolivar; and Puerto Wilches and Sabana de Torres in Santander. In addition, he would be involved in homicides and extortion collections in the region.

The Prosecutor's Office charged Sierra Yepes with the crimes of concert to commit an aggravated crime in competition with aggravated homicide, and the manufacture, trafficking, carrying or possession of firearms. The defendant, captured in Antioquia, did not enter the charges.

On the other hand, the Attorney General's Office announced that it obtained an insurance measure in a prison center against Juan Esteban Jiménez, alias Chulo; and Victor Manuel Jiménez Espinosa, alias Chefo, allegedly responsible for the crimes of manufacturing, trafficking or illegal carrying of firearms of personal defense.

The defendants were captured last Wednesday, March 30, by members of the Sijín Police and the National Army who were carrying out an operation against the Jorge Iván Arboleda Garcés substructure of the GAO Gulf Clan that committed a crime in Santo Domingo, Antioquia.

According to the information provided by the authorities, two revolvers, a shotgun, 13 cartridges of different caliber and documentation related to the alleged illegal activities committed by the criminal organization in that area of the department were seized in the judicial action.

The prosecutor reported that the persons under investigation were not raided on the charges charged by a Sectional Prosecutor of Antioquia.
