Nationwide alert for the consumption of viagra in minors due to a challenge on Tik-Tok

Young people from different regions of the country reported that they had to be hospitalized due to the inappropriate use of the drug Sildenafil, known as Viagra, a challenge of teenagers on the Tik-Tok social network.

The National Institute for Drug and Food Surveillance (Invima) triggered the alerts and called on young people, parents and the general public to be aware of these cases that have occurred in different educational institutions, where viagra is mixed with drinks (water, soda or juice).

In addition, the entity stated that Viagra is not allowed in people with cardiovascular diseases, nor is it indicated for children under 18 years of age with sexual disorders.

Invima noted that this medicine should only be administered under medical formula, warning that otherwise it may cause a serious health risk.

The health authorities confirmed that to date the occurrence of this malpractice has been identified in Antioquia, Atlántico, Meta, Quindio, Cundinamarca and Norte de Santander.

The incident was recorded at the Antonio Nariño educational institution, located in the Cantarito neighborhood. At least 20 students from that school had to be transferred to a health care center, five of them due to a nervous shock they suffered when they saw the situation.

According to the first versions, minors would have consumed eight viagra pills mixed with four liters of soda.

The students of the Antonio Nariño school came to the medical center with “nervousness, some with some sweating, some with vomiting, but more than all that anxiety crisis. As time went on, more students were arriving and until one o'clock in the afternoon we attended about 20 students, between boys and girls, with an age range between 10 and 16 years,” explained Leonardo Quiceno, manager of the Pío X hospital, quoted by Noticias Caracol.

At San Bartolomé school in Cucuta, 13 students had health problems, after mixing the sexual enhancer with passion fruit juice.

For her part, the rector of the school, Astrid Leonor Álvarez, called on parents to teach young people how to use social networks correctly, so that they do not fall into such challenges that could compromise their health.

He added that “the incident was dealt with immediately; therefore, the headquarters is operating in complete normality”, emphasizing that students were attended to quickly and classes on the school campus continued unchanged.

The president of the school indicated that the case has already been brought to the attention of the Children and Adolescents Police, which will assume the situation and begin the investigation process.

Three boys and a girl between the ages of 12 and 15 were poisoned at the Juan B. Padilla school in Juan de Acosta, Atlántico, after they drank a soda that had half a viagra tablet mixed in it at recess.

The drink was supplied to them by a group of classmates who decided to play a joke on them, as they had seen viral challenges on social networks that they wanted to replicate at school.

In this regard, the rector of the institution, Vanessa Beleños, explained that the minors involved in the alleged joke were suspended while the investigations into the case are progressing.

Parents of the Villemar del Carmen school reported poisoning of several students in the middle of an activity that the school was doing, according to the parents some children had ingested with viagra.

The children immediately felt bad, began to give notice to what teachers and their parents through calls.

According to the parents, the representatives of the school did not want to take responsibility for what happened, while the Ministry of Health, which had knowledge of the subject, was in charge of the case, the children were taken to care centers.
