On Friday, April 8, Senator of the Evangelical Colombia Justa Libres Party Jonh Milton Rodríguez reported that the National Electoral Council (CNE) took the decision to endorse his candidacy for the presidency of Colombia, which had been revoked in mid-February, as he evidenced alleged irregularities in the election process within their party.

This decision of the electoral authority is known two months after the CNE confirmed the repeal of the election of the Christian congressman due to alleged anomalies in the election process as a candidate of this collective, because he would not have the full support of the militants, which is why he submitted a guardianship that was admitted by the Bogotá High Court.

“The decision taken by the CNE empowers our presidential candidacy for the first round because it meets all the requirements of the Law. Thank God, my family and everyone who has accompanied us. My commitment to defend life, family and freedoms with a very serious proposal of development, security and justice,” said the Christian candidate.

The senator had confirmed that he was elected by 75% of the party's conventionists and, together with them, presented the guardianship in which he alleged a violation of the fundamental right to defense, due process and his political rights to elect and be elected, as well as to participate in democratic elections.

The complaint of breaches of due process filed with the National Electoral Council was also submitted to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, because the Christian senator maintained that he was not linked to the process when it directly affected him and was unable to exercise his defense.

“This protection aims to ensure my rights that have been violated, as well as those of a majority who exercised their democratic rights legitimately in accordance with the statutes of the collective. I reiterate that my campaign is stronger than ever, so I will go to all the legal instances necessary to defend the will of the party's grassroots,” the candidate said on that occasion.

One day after the final organization of the card for the first presidential round in Colombia was published, the Citizen Oversight Network asked the National Civil Status Registry to exclude John Milton Rodríguez González, candidate for Colombia Justa Libres, from the format. The organization claims that the politician is registered despite the fact that the National Electoral Council (CNE) declared the meeting at which the man was elected as the representative of the said party illegal.

“On March 22, the National Electoral Council declared the illegal registration of the presidential candidacy of Pastor Jhon Milton Rodríguez and his presidential formula of Colombia Justa Libres, then both he and the Registrar must remove them from the electoral card,” said Pablo Bustos on March 3.
