Last Tuesday, April 5, the American magazine specializing in financial issues, Forbes, released its 36th annual ranking of the wealthiest people in the world. In this, Forbes said that, in total, there are 2,668 people considered to be the richest in the world, that is, 87 fewer than a year ago, that there were 2,755.
It must be remembered that, for someone to enter the Forbes list, they must have a fortune greater than USD 1 billion.
In Latin America, Forbes placed a Mexican as the richest. This is businessman Carlos Slim Helú, who owns important companies such as América Móvil or Grupo Carso. The magnate managed to increase his fortune, because according to Forbes, Slim has USD 81.2 billion, however, a year ago his fortune was estimated to be USD 62.8 billion.
Globally, Slim is ranked 13th, beaten by tycoons such as Elon Musk, who has a fortune of $219 billion, who is considered the wealthiest person on the planet, and Bill Gates, who is estimated, has $129 billion.
However, he was not the only Mexican to enter the list, since in addition to him, 14 other Mexicans were included in it.
The second wealthiest person in the country, according to Forbes, is Germán Larrea, who worldwide was placed in 45th position, with a fortune of USD 30,800 million. He owns most of the largest copper mining company in the country, called Grupo Mexico, which also has operations in the United States and Peru.
Under his leadership, Grupo México expanded into the infrastructure and rail transport sectors.
He is the third richest person in Mexico, according to Forbes, and is ranked 151st worldwide, with a fortune valued at USD 12.4 billion. He directs the TV Azteca television network, and also the retailer Elektra.
In fourth place, Forbes placed the children of Alberto Bailleres, who died on February 2, and who had established himself as one of the wealthiest people in the country.
Alejandro Bailleres, Alberto's eldest son, and his five brothers, are the heirs of the mining fortune built by his father. According to Forbes, Alberto Bailleres' sons have a fortune of USD 6.7 billion, which, globally, positions them in 369th place.
She is the richest woman in the country, with a fortune of USD 6.2 billion. Together with his mother and sister, he inherited from his father a stake in the beer giant Grupo Modelo, which in 2013 was sold to AB InBev.
In addition, he has served as CEO of investment firm Tresalia Capital since 1996 and has led investments in construction, telecommunications and internet. Globally, it appears in position 411.
He inherited from his father, Juan Francisco Beckmann, a nearly 51% stake in the tequila firm Becle SAB, maker of José Cuervo. He has a fortune of USD 4.1 billion, which places him in 6th position among the richest people in Mexico, and 709th globally.
He is the seventh wealthiest person in Mexico, and 851 worldwide. It has a fortune of USD 3.5 billion, and is in control of the chemical conglomerate Orbia Advance Corp. Between him and his six children they hold a 42% stake in that company, which was formerly named Mexichem.
He is president of the company of special steel industries CH. It owns about 67% of these, which has operations in Mexico, Canada and the US. UU. According to the ranking, he has a fortune of USD 3.1 billion, which positions him as the eighth richest businessman in Mexico, and worldwide, he is in 1012th place.
She is the sister of Juan Domingo Beckmann, and daughter of Juan Francisco Beckmann, from whom she inherited a nearly 36% stake in Becle SAB. This has allowed her to accumulate a total of USD 2.8 billion, placing her as the ninth richest person in Mexico, the second richest woman in the country, and worldwide, to occupy the position 1,996.
His fortune includes assets under construction, financial services, and more. He is the son of the late politician Carlos Hank González, who served as head of government of Mexico City, Secretary of Agriculture and Governor of the State of Mexico.
He owns Grupo Hermes, an industrial conglomerate with interests in construction, infrastructure, energy, tourism and car dealerships. According to Forbes, he has a fortune of USD 2.7 billion, which makes him the tenth richest person in Mexico, and 1163 worldwide.
The list of Mexicans who appeared in the ranking is completed by Fernando Chico Pardo, with $1.9 billion; Roberto Hernández Ramírez, with $1.9 billion; Alfredo Harp Helú and his family, with $1.3 billion; Emilio Azcárraga Jean, with $1.2 billion and David Peñaloza Alanís, with $1.2 billion.
