What would you do if you could experience your own adventure in a medieval world? Disney+b takes this idea to the next level by mixing fantasy with realism in The Quest, a new version of the reality show of the same name that was aired in 2014 on the US channel ABC. The streaming platform revealed the official trailer and confirmed that the series will arrive on May 11.

“For thousands of years, Everealm has been a land of unparalleled beauty and powerful magic. Now, the kingdom is threatened by a powerful evil sorceress. As a last hope, the noble Parkas summon eight strangers known as Paladins from a world beyond to work together to fulfill an ancient prophecy and defeat the Sorceress. Paladins must unlock their inner hero through a series of challenges that push their limits to restore balance in Everealm. If they fail, all will be lost. The heroes will rise. Kingdoms will fall,” says the official synopsis.

Eight teenagers will compete in a contest to live a magical experience in the world of Everealm, where they will have to work as a team to fulfill an ancient prophecy and defeat the coming sorceress as a terrible threat to this kingdom. In this way, they will meet multiple challenges in order to regain their balance and will emerge as the great heroes of this story.

A hybrid program between fantasy and reality

Much of what was seen in the preview of The Quest involves real and improvised situations on the fly, but it will also feature scenes written in a script that allow a hybrid narrative to be developed as if they were really facing the forces of evil. Special effects, makeup for monstrous beings and a lot of props were used to make the protagonists' experiences typical of immersion.

Like a game of Dungeons and Dragons or a medieval video game, the decisions made by each member of the group will have an impact on the future of the plot. Not everyone will agree on the same ideas, so there will also be discussions along the way, however, they must stay together if they seek to win to save Everealm.

Originally, the idea was born in 2014 for ABC, in the United States, and was filmed with adult contestants in a remote castle in Vienna, Austria, where they faced various thematic challenges in the fictional land of Everealm. The development of the episodes had behind it a script, a stage and actors called to play various roles. Challenges and eliminations were carried out based on each other's abilities and decisions.

The Quest will be released on May 11 in the Disney+ catalog.
