BogoShorts opens call for its 20th edition

The Bogotá Short Film Festival/Bogotá Short Film Festival - BOGOSHORTS will hold its twentieth edition from December 6 to 13 in Bogotá

As is customary, from today until 6 August, both dates framed by historical events, the organizers of the event will have a series of short films from all over the world available throughout the city that will be able, of course, to participate in the calls for the festival's official competitions and will be awarded with the usual statuette of Saint Lucia.

The official statement of the event invites Colombian filmmakers and producers to participate in the different categories that have been prepared for this new edition. National Competition (Fiction, Documentary, Animation, Experimental and Video Clip, as well as other artistic categories that contribute to the recognition of the different trades that enrich the country's audiovisual sector). International Competition, which is open to filmmakers from all over the world, except Colombia, covers the areas of Fiction, Documentary, Animation, Experimental and Video Clip.

Applicants will also be able to register for the F3 - Fantastic Freak Fanático competitions, consisting of short films of horror, science fiction, fantasy, or related genres (black comedy, crime, magical realism, action, suspense, about superheroes, etc.) and the VR Competition, for short films produced in 360°, in 2D and 3 D, from any country in the world (including Colombia).

All registered short films will be eligible for inclusion in the Collections Competition in which the BOGOSHORTS Audience Award is awarded, made up of thematic programs that highlight the diversity and style of the short films, and the Conexion Competition, focused on creating dynamics of recognition and co- production among filmmakers from Ibero-American countries.

Since 2018, organizers report, BOGOSHORTS was included in the list of qualifying short film festivals for the Academy Awards (Academy Awards®). The Santa Lucia winning short films for Best Short Fiction, Best Short Documentary and Best Animated Short Film of the National Competition will be eligible for consideration at the Academy Awards in the following season. Also, since 2020, the Bogotá Short Film Festival/Bogotá Short Film Festival - BOGOSHORTS is part of the official list of international festivals that qualify Spanish short films for the Goya Awards. The selection of the official competitions of the festival will give them the opportunity to submit their candidacy to the categories of Best Fiction Short Film and Best Documentary Short Film.

To register, they indicate in the statement, directors and producers must bear in mind that only works of Fiction, Documentary, Animation, Experimental and Video Clips of a maximum of 30 minutes, produced since January 1, 2021, will be accepted only works of Fiction, Documentary, Animation, Experimental and Video Clips, produced since January 1, 2021, that have not had any public exhibition in Colombia and that are not published in Internet (except video clips). The registration process will be carried out only through the ShortFilmDepot platform (www.shortfilmdepot.com). No physical copy or screener will be accepted outside the platform, and a registration fee will apply with two payment periods:

- From April 9 to June 6, 2022, registration will be free for the National Competition, the F3 Competition - Fantastic Freak Fanatic and the VR Competition, and a fee of USD 5 will apply for the International Competition.

- From June 7 to August 6, 2022, registration will be free for the National Competition and VR Competition, a fee of 5 USD will be applied to the F3 Competition - Fantastic Freak Fanatic and a fee of 10 USD will be applied for the International Competition.

All Colombian short films, of Colombian co-production or directed by Colombians must be entered in the NATIONAL COMPETITION.

In addition, the statement continues, the short fiction, documentary, animation and experimental films produced in Ibero-American countries (excluding Portugal), by or in co-production with Ibero-American filmmakers, registered in the different competitions of the call and that fully comply with the Regulations of will be included at no additional cost in the BFM Video Library of the sixth edition of the BFM - BOGOSHORTS Film Market. In the Video Library, which seeks to promote the circulation of Ibero-American audiovisual production, episodes of web series produced in the region are also welcome, which can be registered in the EPISODES WEB SERIES - VIDEOLIBRERÍA BFM (NON-COMPETITIVE SECTION) section of the ShortFilmDepot call.
