A teacher who was accused by the Attorney General's Office of the Nation of the Nation of sexually abusing and torturing a girl as young as three years old in Bogotá during 2019 went to prison.
The events took place in a kindergarten in the capital during that year. The teacher assures the accuser subjected the infant to several harassments for almost two weeks.
The institution announced that, due to the constant mistreatment of the teacher involved, the minor did not want to return to the garden. Because of the facts, a judge for the control of guarantees sent the alleged perpetrator to prison, after the same accusing body requested it.
Women must face charges for the crimes of sexual acts with children under 14 years of age and aggravated torture. For now, both the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare (ICBF) have information about it and are working to guarantee the rights of the victim.
This story had legal effects against the alleged aggressor, given that three years after the scourge, the little girl entered to study at a school near the garden where she was abused, identified the teacher who accessed her and finally denounced her.
“After resisting returning to school so as not to meet the woman again, the victim told the course director what she had endured and pointed out to the alleged responsible,” explained the prosecutor's office.
The Ministry of Education recently submitted to the Office of the Prosecutor General of the Nation information on 163 cases of sexual violence registered in district educational institutions, allegedly committed by teachers attached to the entities.
The District clarified in a press release that there are 154 disciplinary proceedings active with a cut-off as of March 1; however, the base submitted to the Prosecutor's Office was updated on March 18, which includes complaints received in the third month of the year, thus involving a total of 163 cases.
The judicial body, for its part, will deliver the first results of the investigation within a period of 30 days. Added to this is the appointment of six new prosecutors and the same number of investigators who will be available in the District's courthouses, located in: Ciudad Bolivar, Suba and Barrios Unidos.
This initiative was announced on March 19 by Prosecutor Francisco Barbosa, after meeting with Mayor Claudia López. According to the official, the new investigators and prosecutors will give greater attention to this type of inquiry regardless of the locality in which it originates.
According to the report released by the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, in 2021 there were about 43,993 complaints associated with sexual abuse, of which 61% were cases against children and adolescents. Of these, only 13% reported nationally were brought before a judge.
The analysis carried out by the university highlighted that children, young people who are victims of sexual harassment or abuse have delays in their development, anxiety, stigmatization, low self-esteem. Among other drawbacks, three times lower performance was identified in the State tests, more likely to repeat school resources and to drop out of school.
