Baby (The Baby) aims to become the horror title of the year with a cute protagonist: a boy who can barely crawl. On April 24, the British miniseries will debut on the HBO Max platform and will air on the HBO signal with its first episodes. There is no doubt that the premise has already captured more than one fan of the horror genre, but we delve a little deeper into the plot that will run through eight episodes.
Natasha (Michelle De Swarte) is a 38-year-old woman who lives her life without too many occupations, but fate has taken care of giving her a very big one. Faced with an unexpected and terrible series of events, she becomes the caregiver of a baby and, although it sounds like a common job for many mothers, she will witness the little sadist who lives inside this infant. It's manipulative and violent... And his favorite hobby is killing people. Will she be able to escape this situation and get out alive?
De Swarte leads a cast made up of Amira Ghazalla as Mrs. Eaves; Amber Grappy as Bobbi, Natasha's younger sister; Patrice Naiambana as Lyle, the father of both; Sinéad Cusack as Barbara, the mother; Shvorne Marks as Mags; Isy Suttie as Rita; Tanya Reynolds as Helen; Seyan Sarvan as Nour; Karl Davies as Jack; and Divian Ladwa in the role of Fooze.
With clear inspiration from classic films such as The Prophecy or Rosemary's Baby, the story of The Baby is created by Siân Robins-Grace and Lucy Gaymer. “We want to explore the powerful anxiety around the issue of having children or not,” said the showrunners while the project was still being developed in 2020. “The ambivalence of not knowing, the bewilderment at the certainty of others and the suspicion that everything is a millennial scam.”
The limited series was developed under the label of HBO and Sky Productions, and is produced by Sister, the company behind television hits such as Chernobyl and Landscapers. Gaymer, Robins-Grace, Nicole Kassell, Jane Featherstone, Carolyn Strauss, Naomi de Pear and Katie Carpenter all feature in executive production. Kassell was directed by Stacey Gregg, Faraz Shariat and Ella Jones.
The fiction season will be divided into eight parts that will be released weekly through HBO Max. It is confirmed that the title will debut in April this year on the streaming platform, but it is still unknown whether its premiere will be one or three episodes, since in cases such as Euphoria it only aired once a week, but with other series in the original catalog, a release with more episodes was taken into account.
The baby will be available for viewing from April 24.
