Why Mexico could play the Copa America again in 2024

The dream of entering a continental tournament that is more competitive than those offered by Concacaf for the Mexican National Team could become a reality in 2024. The possibility of returning to the Copa America, the continent's most prestigious national team championship, is viable thanks to the fact that Mexico will host the post-Qatar 2022 World Cup. In that sense, the Tri football calendar would allow him to return after eight years of absence.

As one of the three organizing countries of the World Cup in 2026, Mexico, along with the United States and Canada, have their ticket secured, so they will be exempt from participating in the Octagonal Final of the Concacaf. On the other hand, the Gold Cup, the tournament that the Tricolor is obliged to play because it belongs to the Confederation of North, Central and Caribbean America, is played every two years. In that sense, the 2023 and 2025 editions will not prevent the FMF from agreeing to participate in the second oldest international competition in the world.
