WhatsApp added a new button to express reactions. This option is in addition to those already announced in recent days.

It is worth remembering that two weeks ago the application rolled out the beta version for Android 2.22.8.3, in which six different emoji were warned to react to messages.

These first six reactions are the same as those already included in Facebook, also owned by Meta, that is, “Like”, “Love”, “Smiley”, “Surprised”, “Sad” and “Thank you”.

Recently, WaBetaInfo identified that the application implemented through the Google Play Beta Program, a new update that integrates a button with a six-reaction option.

Although this section could not be accessed, the button with the plus symbol (+) suggests that the user can react to messages using a different emoji than the ones mentioned above.

This new version of the reactions to messages is under development and at the moment, it is unknown what new graphics the application plans to introduce as well as its release date for beta testers.

Photos and videos will be automatically deleted from temporary chats

Another novelty is that the application will automatically delete files sent and received in temporary chats, such as photos or videos, in order to guarantee the experience of privacy in these conversations.

In the version of the Google Play Beta Program for Android 2.22.4.14, you can see that the platform automatically disables the option to save files in this type of chat.

This means that when you enable the temporary chat option, media files are not automatically saved in the phone's gallery, but must be disabled for the application to proceed with their regular saving.

This option, identified by WaBetaInfo, only affected files received through these conversations, since users could continue to save screenshots of chats in the gallery.

The novelty is that now the company is implementing these changes to the visibility of media files for all iOS and Android users.

In addition, when a temporary chat is deleted, the application will no longer automatically open a window where you can select the option 'Save to gallery' the files received via a temporary chat.

The application notifies users that, in order to keep files from these chats, such as images, videos, or GIFs, users must disable the option of temporary messages.

This limitation is just beginning to be implemented, so those users who want to save their temporary chat files are in time to do so before this latest update of the messaging application arrives.

WhatsApp launched temporary messages, which disappear after a certain time, at the end of 2020, while in summer 2021 it introduced a feature that makes photos and videos disappear immediately after they have been viewed.

How to enable or disable temporary chats

If you want to activate the feature in an individual chat, you have to open the conversation, tap the contact's name, then “Temporary messages” and then “Continue”, and finally, “Activated”. To disable the option, repeat these steps again but press “Disabled”.

If you want to activate the feature in a group chat, you have to do the same steps, only the administrator will be able to do so. So whoever manages the group, will need to open the WhatsApp group chat, tap on the group name, then choose “Temporary Messages”, continue and select “Enabled”. To disable you have to do the same, but, in the end, press “Disabled”.
