Criticism of the controversial adherence of Carlos Negret, former Senate candidate for New Liberalism, to the campaign of the presidential candidate of the Team for Colombia, Federico, does not cease 'Fico' Gutierrez. Now, a group of victims of the police abuse of September 9 (9S) joined the questioning.
It should be recalled that Negret was an ombudsman and, when the 9S demonstrations took place in 2020, he was responsible for narrating several of the acts of police brutality recorded after the death of student Javier Ordoñez at the hands of two members of the Bogotá Metropolitan Police, in an IAC.
Well, in a statement, several of the relatives of the citizens who died and were injured by the uniformed men refused to let Negret join Fico's campaign.
“As family victims of the events that took place on September 9, 2020 in Bogotá and Soacha, we reject the statement of former Ombudsman Carlos Negret, who formalized his union to the campaign of presidential candidate Federico Gutiérrez, better known as Fico,” they described in the text.
Moreover, they recalled that the former candidate for Congress was also the rapporteur of what happened on that dark night of September 9 and that is why they consider that by joining Gutiérrez there is a kind of mockery and betrayal on the part of Negret.
The main reasons why the group of victims rejected the union of the former Ombudsman to the campaign of the former mayor of Medellín are due to the fact that he has within his ranks the politicians of the Democratic Center, who support, according to the signatories of the communiqué, the human rights violations committed by the Colombian public forces; say that since the Uribism campaign “human rights violations and violent deaths at the hands of the State have been mocked and applauded”.
It should be noted that, although several members of the Uribista party have expressed their support for Fico, the community has not yet made a general decision whether or not to support it in the first round. However, for the signatories of the letter, there are “perpetrators” in that community, led by former president Álvaro Uribe Vélez, and that is why they consider that “Carlos Negret cannot talk about the victims”.
There is even a very strong phrase in which they question Fico's alliance with Negret and the Democratic Center, the party with which Iván Duque became president in 2018: “We reject this union that continues to stain our Colombia with blood.”
Before ending the vehement pronouncement, the victims' families highlighted the work of officials of the Bogotá Mayor's Office and other entities who ensured that they clarified what happened during September 2020 after the death of Javier Ordóñez.
The announcement was made official this Tuesday, in a press conference of the presidential candidate with the former Ombudsman, precisely the experience from which he will contribute to the campaign of the former mayor of Medellín and Team candidate for Colombia. “Perhaps one of the most prominent people in the defense of human rights in Colombia and also internationally. It is very important for me to receive it because it is a symbol of unity, a symbol of the Colombia that we want to build for all, for the victims,” Gutiérrez said, announcing Negret's support.
