
After the statement of the mayor of Quibdó, Martín Emilio Valencia Sánchez, regarding the government's neglect of the situation of violence in the capital of Chocó, measures were implemented that have a wide capacity of the Public Forces, to address this context, in this case, from the Ministry of Defense, both the Police such as the Army and Air Force, will be present in the city to provide security for the Chocoans.
The Deputy Minister of Defense for Strategy and Planning, Jairo García Guerrero, met with the mayor of Quibdó and discussed the measures needed to address this conflict, since according to several reports, the population is under siege and are confined as soon as the afternoon arrives, because of the fear of being left in the middle of the crossfire.
The Ministry of Defense highlighted: “After a meeting with the Mayor's Office Quibdo, security actions will be taken: Permanent Patrolling of the Titan Task Force, More than 194 Colombian Police men specialized in judicial investigation and strengthening aerial surveillance hand in hand with the Air Force.” .
Similarly, the deputy minister explained that today there is a constant patrol with three platoons of the Titan Task Force, who will seek to cover the entire territory of the Chocoan capital to protect the population, in addition, this task is done in cooperation between the Military Forces and the National Police, which will also be is attentive to any situation that jeopardizes the integrity of citizens.
García Guerrero, pointed out that this component will go hand in hand with all available forces; both by land and by air, in addition to joining an intelligence team that seeks to find the whereabouts of all members of criminal organizations that commit crimes in this region, which for several years has been flagellated by the conflict armed.
Regarding the deployment of weapons, Deputy Minister García explained: “more than 194 men of the National Police specialized in judicial investigation, specialized in intelligence to continue carrying out activities that allow the dismantling of criminal organizations, which affect the security and tranquility of the inhabitants of Quibdó, we are also going to strengthen air surveillance with a drone that we have arranged from the National Government, will be operated by the Colombian Air Force and that will continue to work together, with all forces, to ensure Quibdó's safety and tranquility.”
For his part, given this good news, Martín Emilio Sánchez Valencia, mayor of Quibdó, welcomed the disposition of the State and assured that the entire population of the city of Quibdó can be calm, because it will be protected by the authorities through this comprehensive intervention plan, Sánchez said: “The National Government is by committing to permanent air and land patrolling, with full capacity training for a comprehensive intervention plan on the city of Quibdó, people will feel protected in our territory.”
Yesterday, the mayor of Quibdó issued some strong allegations against the National Government, stating that it did not care about anything that happened in Chocó. He also pointed out that apparently the lives of young people in other cities mattered more than those who lived in this capital of the Colombian Pacific, the mayor he said: “so far this year we have had 61 homicides in the city of Quibdó, that is a figure that frightens all citizens, this situation exceeds the administrative capacity we have, we hold the National Government responsible for what continues to happen in our city”. After this pronouncement, it took only hours for the government to deploy part of its operational force.
