Throughout the history of the América club, one of the most outstanding players of the blue-cream institution is Luis Roberto Alves Zague. The current sports commentator lived two stages in Coapa, and in each one he stood out for his scoring ability.
However, in his last step with the blue-cream jersey he left the board and the club dissatisfied as he left the championship at the end of the 1998 season. His spontaneous departure left some doubts among the fans because it was not clear why Luis Roberto left Coapa.
Recently Zague himself talked about what happened back then and the real reason why he abandoned the blue-cream colors to play for Atlantean and finally retire with Necaxa. In a conversation with David Medrano and other former American footballers, Zaguinho told on a TV Azteca capsule his reasons for leaving the team and among them it was because they didn't want him in the club anymore.
Zague began by telling the official version that circulated at that moment and the argument that was given, in which the directive had been the one that made the decision. However, Zague pointed out Carlos Reinoso as the culprit of his departure from America.
In 1998, the American helmsman was the Chilean coach, who also had different stages as coach of Las Águilas. According to Zague, Reinoso didn't want him on the squad anymore. Even though he was one of the most outstanding players and scoring champion, he didn't want him anymore on his team.
That is why Reinoso decided to call José Alves, Zaguinho's father, to express his decision and what could happen to Luis Roberto Alves. In a phone call he informed him that Alves dos Santos would no longer be part of the club because he was not a suitable player for what America needs.
“He says it was the board, in fact his assistant was Cristobal Ortega and I remember that I was on vacation, I was in Las Vegas and they talk to my dad there and he says that, according to Reynoso, I wasn't a player with the profile to be in America,” recalled the current sports commentator.
In addition, the Argentine strategist took advantage of the phone call to talk about Zague's performance and what would happen if he stayed at the institution. The first thing Reinoso pointed out is that he would not call him to the matches and send him to the basic forces clubs.
To ensure his future as a professional player, Zague's father advised him to leave the team to find a place where he does deserve consideration and consideration.
This is how he returned with the Atlantean Iron Colts and continue his sports career, but now away from America.
