Origin, rise and fall of an extraditable: this is the record of Otoniel, the top capo of the Gulf Cartel in Colombia

After the approval of the Supreme Court of Justice, around the extradition of Dairo Antonio Úsuga David, better known as' Otoniel ', questions arise about the record and growth of this criminal figure, who gradually became the most wanted man in Colombia and after his capture, is one of the banners regarding the blows against crime by the government of Iván Duque. Authorities indicated that only days will be enough for the head of the Gulf Clan to set foot on US territory.

'Otoniel' was born on September 15, 1971 in the municipality of Necoclí, Antioquia, was captured for his crimes as a drug trafficker, in addition to having been part of the People's Liberation Army (EPL), and later joined the country's paramilitary groups, affiliated to the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia. After his criminal advance, he became the chief and commander of the Gulf Clan or Clan Úsuga. After the fall of the great heads of the drug world in the national territory, Úsuga David became the most important drug dealer in the entire nation.

In the 1990s, the also known alias' Mauro 'or' Mao ', joined the PLA, a group where he strengthened his criminal abilities, as well as developing his strategic criminal activity. At the time, he joined the guerrilla group with Juan de Dios Úsuga David, his brother, who accompanied him in his first pines under the shadow of the law.

After demobilizing from the aforementioned guerrilla, 'Otoniel' joined the ranks of the AUC, led by the late paramilitary chief Carlos Castaño, in this case, 'Mao' increased points within the organization as commissioner of the proceeds of drug trafficking, was sent to the Eastern Plains to form the Centauros Bloc hand in hand with alias 'Don Mario', after several years he would return to Urabá to define his criminal future together with potential paramilitaries such as 'El Aleman' and the rest of the Castaños, however, everything was fragmented after the agreements of Santa Fe de Ralito, in the process of demobilizing the paramilitaries in that area.

Alias' Otoniel 'did not cease his criminality, since he formed the Gaitanista Self-Defense Forces of Colombia, which as a result began to develop groups called Los Urabeños, also known as Clan Úsuga or Clan del Golfo, an organization that he currently commanded as the top head. This drug dealer seized drug control in the Gulf of Urabá and the outflows to the Pacific and Caribbean, unleashing a constant war with the rest of the criminal groups, and even intimidating the same population and the authorities through the so-called 'gun plan'.

Prior to his capture, thanks to his early criminal ancestry, in communion between the Colombian authorities and the United States government, he was offering up to $5 million to obtain information about where he was, in addition to having a red Interpol circular and becoming the main target of the National Government.

The capture of alias' Otoniel 'took place on October 23, 2021, in a joint operation between the National Army, Air Force and the Police within the framework of 'Operation Osiris'; nearly 500 soldiers and 22 helicopters arrived at Cerro Yoki in the rural area of the municipality of Necoclí in Antioquia, where strategically, the authorities canceled the siege of 'Mauro', he ended up incommunicado with his men, however, his alleged tranquility caused surprise.

According to the Ministry of Defense, Dairo Antonio Úsuga, carries 128 arrest warrants for various crimes, including: extortion, homicide, drug trafficking, forced displacement, concert to commit crime, arms trafficking, formation of armed groups and crimes against humanity, despite the fact that his capture has caused controversy over the way as it was found, this coup touched the backbone of Los Urabeños, an organization that has been partially weakened following the operations of the national authorities.

To this day, his judicial process has caused a stir, as the victims of the armed conflict have denounced that it is necessary for this man, before being extradited, to share the truth with the Colombians, since it depends on this the clarification of many cases in which the Gulf Clan was interfered with. Colombian authorities, to weaken the process and intervene at a time when 'Otoniel' is making his statements.
