Maria De Jesús Montes Mendoza protested to assume the municipal presidency of Aguililla, replacing César Valencia Caballero, who was killed almost a month ago in the midst of the violence caused by cells of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and the United Cartels in Tierra Caliente of Michoacán.
The new mayor was not accompanied by the state leader of her party in the event held at the Congress of the Morelia-based entity. Before the press, she said she was confident in the security provided by federal forces such as the Army, despite the fact that the institutions did not prevent her predecessor from being shot down in the middle of the day at the head of the demarcation.
Montes Mendoza will have to conclude the period until 2024, while investigations have advanced in identifying one of the alleged murderers of Valencia Caballero, for whom the Michoacán Prosecutor's Office offered a reward of 100,000 pesos.
