Russian Doll is an irresistible cocktail that combines the premise of repeating films like Trapped in Time or Happy Day of Your Death with comedy, drama, thriller, existential horror and science fiction. This was one of the most acclaimed series of 2019 and it doesn't surprise us. It was actually a big hit for Netflix, finding a new way to revitalize the time loop trope with Leslye Headland, Amy Poehler and her cool protagonist, Natasha Lyonne.
The Netflix comedy follows the story of a woman who experiences her birthday night over and over again by being trapped in a loop of time, which always ends the same way: with her death. However, she is aware that she is always living in the same moment, she questions her own existence and the relationship she has with her environment and, especially, with her mother. This will lead her to test fate, “avoiding the inevitable” and dying in the stupidest ways possible.
In the trailer for this long-awaited second season, it is discovered that she is not the only one to suffer from this problem, since there is Alan (Charlie Barnett), a young man who also experiences this period constantly. The situation forces both characters to ask existential questions and question their own life decisions.
Netflix has already confirmed that the second season of Russian Doll will be released on April 20, 2022. This, after a long shoot due to the pandemic. In this regard, it should be added that many are more than impatient, since the second season was scheduled for February 2020.
The story will reveal that Nadia and Alan managed to break out of the deadly time loop and it's been four years since then. Again, the plot will navigate between comedy and science fiction to explore themes inherent to human questioning and introduce time travel. Both characters will have the opportunity to analyze their pasts very closely when they discover this temporary meeting point located in one of the most emblematic areas of the city of Manhattan.
It is known that the second season will feature the starring appearance of Annie Murphy, the star of Schitt's Creek.
In the second season, Nadia is believed to be a time traveler; although she calls herself a prisoner of it. Don't miss it!
